Last week I had to get the D3 to Mt Isa for some new tyres, I couldn't go due to work so asked one of my staff to take it down. Now this bloke is a dyed in the wool V8 petrol man & currently has a V8 Jeep Cherokee Limited, about a 2002 model.
He could not believe how good the 2.7 was once he got used to it. He reckons it cruised like it was idling & didn't even drop a cog through the hill country, he was impressed by the whole deal.
    So now he wants a D3 V8?
I guess if V8's are your thing nothing else will do.
I also think the lower price has a bit to do with it.
Jeez, I'm brave letting someone else drive my D3 for 14 hours to & from MI.

    Dearot,
There is a D3 on Ebay today, a 4.0 litre one with a starting price of $29k with 150k kilometres, three days left and it's in Sydney.

I'd be looking at the type of driving you are most likely to be doing.
Regular 50km + runs on open roads the go the diesel.

Weekday short runs, with occasional weekends away: then take your pick V8 or TDV6

if you run weekdays with short runs in stop/start traffic, then I'd be looking at the V8 and putting it on liquid gas. Diesels can find regular short stop/start runs quite wearing.

People are incredibly quick to discount the V6...... INCREDIBLY good value second hand…… and at the prices most of you are talking, resale value is not an issue as most of the depreciation has happened already. and fuel consumption is not nearly as scary as people make out. Run the numbers of purchase price vs running costs on the two and V6 starts to make sense, unless you are doing long desert runs give it some thought.

Also depends on how long you plan to keep the vehicle, resale value becomes less and less of an issue the longer you keep it. I also have my opinions on longevity of the TDV6, but time will tell on that front.

    Just my 2 cents worth…….

Sorry DS, I should have said petrol or diesel not V8 or TDV6.

I agree with your line of thinking. Only do not tell too many people about the V6 or they will become more desirable (I still have not got one ...yet)
