There are many thousands of members on this forum and most subjects have been discussed before.

This is why the search function is available.

For your question on sand driving a simple search revealed:

    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/...and+driving+D3

    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/...and+driving+D3

    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/...and+driving+D3

Those all in the D3/D4/RRS forum and there are many more results.

That is why your thread was closed, nothing personal, but there are complaints that there are too many threads.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I have to agree - whether it was intentional or not that was NOT welcoming.

I hear what you're saying (and it was not me who closed the thread) However if we get numerous new members every day (remember we currently have 15,060 members with about 86,400 individual threads) what a mess this place would be if every new member created a new thread on each of 10 most common questions?

It is why we have the pinnacles, so that people can read about their preferred model and the search engine so you can find exactly what you want.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Yeah....as obvious as it is to us and those people whose only response is 'search is your friend', it often isn't to a noob. Hence the frequency of those top 10 questions.

    cheers

There are sites that can do that without really hurting anyone, but this site wouldn't be one. I just think back to when I was a noob, and that I'm pretty sure I asked one or two of those top 10 questions. A belated thanks to all those who took the time to answer.\

    cheers

It was me who closed the thread for the reasons already described.

Yes, I agree it's not the most welcoming thing for a newcomer, but I tried to alleviate that by adding a "welcome" message.

On the other hand, if you're a regular here, do you want to read the same topics again and again and again and again? As has been said, we do get complaints to that effect very often.

That is also why we started to close down creating MORE threads on the merits of 19" rims, we had plenty enough as it was.

In another effort to fix the problem I did create the FAQ which you will see at the top of the page. Unfortunately, it's not often read and I'd like some more contributions.

I thought about leaving it open but then we'd just end up with another discussion on the same topic. I didn't have time to search and provide the links and in any case my search parameters may not have been the same as the poster's, it's a pretty easy thing to search for. Plus I don't want to set an expectation the mods will do your searching for you.

I understand the need to keep thread numbers down but............Maybe first check who is asking, as they were a noobie you could have been a little more helpful. Even just some hints on how to search would have been better.

Although your logic is sound, but
When you come to the regulars reading the same topic over and over again, you are infact making the site for the regulars at the cost of the new members. ie it becomes very clicky and elitist. I am not exaggerating, I have seen this happen a number of times.
