Mm - tried this 4 months ago, so it might have changed but at that stage, there was only one dealer in Australia, and he only imported the vintage/classic tyres. :(

There is also the issue of climate. The Wintrac is a silica winter tyre. There are raging debates on European blogs of whether it is safe to run in summer. I got the feeling that a desert track in Australia wasn't going to be the place to run these.

Sigh - the 275/55R19 would have been a nice size too.

Gordon, I tried Vintage tyres and their next shipment is not until the end of the year.
I sent an email to my LR contact to check if it is possible to get a set or two on his next shipment. Haven't heard back as yet.
So, do you think they may not be any good?

I honestly don't know - they grip well in slippery conditions (using a hydrophillic silica compound), but they're specifically designed for 10deg C and lower. Blowouts after hot running may be an issue. And of course, they're not an AT or MT tyre, so I don't really see the advantage over a Pirelli ATR or a Goodyear MTR, which are available here.

The 275/55R19 size is a little more common in Europe due to Mercedes and BMW, such as the Michellin Diarimis or Pirelli Scorpion. They might be a better bet if you _really_ want a tyre in that size.

Looks like the Pirelli may be the choice until a tyre manufacturer comes up with something better.

Hey, check this out. The new Grabber AT General Tire Drives Grabber AT Into European Market
Not sure whether it is any more aggresive than the Pirelli ATR, however the side lugs look better.

That's the AT2 replacement. Which may well end up in a 19" size.

That's my speculation/guesswork, not confirmed fact I should add.

Yes thats them. The OEM 17" rims. I have 4 & would like 2 more for travelling, Just one for now would be good just to run the 17's with ATZ's for now for the slightly more challenging trips.

I just take 5 rims and 6 tyres when on extended trips. So far, I've yet to kill a quality alloy rim so the chances of killing two on a trip are small. But as for tyres...well those are easily killable :-( but happily not too much effort to swap from rim to rim.

Its a shame you cant get the General Grabber AT2 in a 19 inch, I have just fitted them to my 18 inch alloy rims on my Discovery 2 tried them out today in the wombat state forest and was very impressed, really good in the mud, almost as good on rocky stuff and quiet on the bitumen.

This was in fairly wet conditions and all done with on road tyre pressure. If they last as long as they are supposed to I will be very happy despite the price!

They are scarce as hens teeth. A few around at wrecking yards, but they have totally unrealistic prices on them. I think the BBS may be a more reasonable way to go.
