Time was on my side as first off road is to the Cape in July. Today I rang Spinning Wheel Tyres who now say the General Grabber AT (255/55/19) shows on their list. Then rang my local JaxTyres and they put me on hold and rang Continental, say they are on the boat and are about 1 month away at $279 fitted. He put six on back order for me, looks hopeful, so if you can wait a month could be worth it.

WT...? The Pirelli Scorpions that I just fitted were almost $200 more per tyre. I can understand if that is the UK off-the-shelf price...the same as the US Tirerack $260......but locally supplied???

Sounds too good to be true.

For your sake I hope not......mumble, mumble, mumble.....

    Cheers,

    Kev.

I can confirm that the General Grabber AT 255/55/19 will be available end of next week (or thereabouts). Supply and fit in Newcastle quoted at $293 per tyre.

Decision time l guess. General Grabber AT versus Pirelli Scorpion AT ??????

Mmmm.....TRIF, unless there is something you didn't like in the UK write-ups about the GG AT....it should be a no brainer.....I know I'd rather have that $1000 in my pocket!

Thanks for the positive news. Been very pleased with 33,000 km on 19" Wranglers including 7000 km on Simpson Desert trip last year. Bound for the Cape this year and need to get some new tyres before hand so Grabbers look like a good option at that price.

I'll be happy to put Wranglers back on for the black top and save the Grabbers for the trips.

Keep us posted when the first shipment arrives. I'll start shopping in Melbourne this week.

    Thanks Geoff

Hey mate, don't know if you read my post on the Wranglers becoming puncture prone after some wear. I don't think they have a monopoly on that, as I'm certain I read elsewhere that another brand of tyre appeared to be doing the same thing.

With the exception of mud, my Wranglers had been pretty good (no crazy off-road stuff though, just sand, gravel, grass and some rocky stuff) but I had always planned on getting an AT type a bit later.

I had three out of the five tyres down to 50 - 60% and blew two of those on the one weekend just driving on gravel forest tracks. So I was forced to by the new tyres a few months earlier than anticipated.

I just couldn't believe how easily they blew.....rocks straight through the tread area.

Just something to keep in mind.

    Cheers,

    Kev.

JUst wondering where in Newcastle you got the quote? On their website, General Tyres doesn't list a distributor in Newcastle. I'm about due for new 19s on my D4SE and looking for options, thanks.

Quote was from Jax in Edgeworth. However, afterwards l contacted my regular tyre supplier who contacted the Conti state rep directly to verify the info. As of this morning l have not received any more news. I'll post details once l know more.

As of this afternoon l was told the shipment has been delayed by 2-3 weeks, so we need to wait just a little longer. But they are definitely coming .......

    general grabbers 19

    HI All,

I have been in touch with Jax Melbourne who confirmed arrival of Continental shipment late in May. They could not give me a price yet.

Rather than wait until then, I contacted Donellans Box Hill who were more interested. They confirmed the same shipment and said most were on backorder on arrival. I placed a deposit on 5 at $285 each - I hope they're OK. Very pleased to have reasonably priced option now.

Good luck - sounds like D4 owners are lined up for them.

    Geoff
