    Disco 3.0Lt v Jaguar 3.0Lt

Hi all, why is it that the 3.0Lt diesel in the Jaguar puts out 202Kw, yet the same engine in the Disco puts out 180Kw???

What are the torque differences? Maybe the D4 has been tuned for more torque?

You can get a re-map for the D4 3.0L that puts out 720Nm of torque not sure what the power increase was. I would say difference is due to mapping, D4 needs to cope with different qualities if fuel in a greater range of conditions so is detuned.

Hi Michael, the torque is exactly the same. Not sure why the Disco is de-tuned for power??

Yes, both have 500Nm available from idle. Not sure beyond this, but I assume it would be the same.

The Land Rover variants are probably de-tuned slightly in the interests of economy. A D4 is a lot heavier than a Jag, so to get reasonable consumption figures, they may have decided to sacrifice a bit of power.

That makes sense Gordon. Another story I heard is that when testing the D4, they found that by reducing the power output, it was not only better on fuel, but ran cooler as well????

Could be as simple as they didn't want to out do to 3.6lt TD V8 which you can get in the RRS. They still probably want to sell a few more of those before its phased out for the new 4.4 lt TD V8.
