hand brake problem

Try adjusting the brakes both sides so they have locked the rear wheels then apply the hand brake if the noise has gone then it's an adjustment problem, if the noise is still there it could be stretched handbrake cables or the main Unit situated behind the spare wheel above the rear diff. Have a look under the rear and make sure that the handbrake cables are held in place by their spring wire retainer. Had one pushed out when 4x4 ing in the Flinders, allowed it to hang down and rub on the inner side of the rim, just got it before it did major damage

Thanks Tinman It is either the cables or the main unit, made the same noise. I have read that there is a stronger unit avalible to replace it with , is this true?

My has the same problem, just took it to my mechanic and he said it requires a new acuator! quite from Souther is $1,200.00! owch!

does anyone know of a aftermarket or cheaper option?

Mine made a horrible noise.. same as discribed.. lights on the dash flashing and all the BS.. During the test drive..

Got it home took the rear calipers and drums off and blew out the brake dust, and adjusted the brakes. Just like on dads mini..

Now i have no noise or squeal. Even tested the emergency brake function. works really well!!! Ops test ok!

I read an artical in a mag about how LR had terrible electrical hand brake. I Don't think it has any thing to do with LR. Just mechanics that don't give the adjuster the required attention!!

nope,, if you had the right fault code/ noise you need the moudle replaced,

I have heard there are moves afoot to replace it with a manual system. I'd be first in line. Shocking bit of 'design', right up there with the location of the spare wheel release. Work experience kids shouldn't be let near the cAD machine!

;);):o if land rover cant change the puma clutch so it dosent rattle, theres no way they would redesign the hole handbrake sys on the d4/rss/rrv,

the handbrake module is allso used for other sys in the car as well,

Only ever had one screamer. ;)

Fixed by adjustment. I live the EPB never really given me a problem. :D

theres 2 types of nosie they make, if its a single screem they need adjusting and the new type pad set, of if is sounds like landrover music it needs the module replaced,
