I thought about not having the rear bar.
1. For around town an inflation / repair kit like my Mini has.
2. On trips with the Van carry the spare(s) on the Van.
Wife didn't like 1.
I have a new Van on the way and it already has 2 spares.
After nearly having to walk for fuel on our last trip there was no way we were going again without the Aux tank.
George, would it be worth getting a couple of Jerry can holders fitted to the van?

2 Jerry cans is only 50l and you have to stop to put them in.Quote:

I thought about extra jerry cans on the van but like Mowog I have 2 spares mounted on the rear of the van (one for the van and the other a 19" for the Disco). I am reluctant to start fiddling with the drawbar as I am concerned about ball weights. The factory ball weight for my van is reputed to be 240kg but I have yet to test this myself and until I do I am not adding to the drawbar weight. (I suspect it is heavier)
I had a look at the earlier post with the UTube video of the Kaymar rear wheel carrier and it didn't look too bad. I have a reversing camera on the Disco and I'm not sure if the rear wheel carrier would interfere too much with the camera's field of view. Does anybody know?
The problem of weight could be further complicated when one considers that a full aux fuel tank would weight at least 110kg. So when you add the weight of a full aux tank to the (tow) ball weight of the van with the weight of a car fridge add some recovery gear, cargo, passengers x 2 the Disco quickly reaches its max payload.
On another note given the issues of additional weight on the vehicle I have just about given up on fitting a bullbar.

With the Kaymar Bar fitted you can see the spare in the camera view. I don't think it blocks to much view.
Extra load and Tow ball weights....
We tend to pack every thing in the van on trips so the cargo area in the D4 has just a few things like a couple of chairs and my camera gear.
My new van has a toolbox and jerry carriers on the drawbar as standard. I have ordered some 18" rims in the group buy. I have 6 on the way so I need to find a home for the other spare.
Thanks Mowog for the info. You have given me some more food for thought. I am just sorting through the dramas of caravan rear camera and monitor compatibility before I get to the aux tank and rear wheel carrier issue.
BTW with the 18' wheel group buy I take it you have the 2.7lit D4?
I need to sort this fuel issue as I have a Sydney - Gold Coast - Darwin trip starting Jan 11. I am running out of time!

No I have 3.0l D4 there has been some great work in getting an 18" rim to fit the D4 3.0l the topic is a sticky at the top.
I am not doing a reversing camera on the van the wife is a good guide when backing so I cant see the sense in spend dollars on a camera for the van.
There are cheaper rear bars than the Kaymar. But if you go Kaymar budget around $5500 for the whole job.
The lead time on the Kaymar bar will mean you will have to do something very soon to be ready by Jan...

I'm having an OL auxillary tank and single swing arm wheel carrier fitted next week.
The auxillary and the main tank are piggy backed being joined by a 50mm pipe that was the original filler pipe. The main tank has a non return valve and will always be full until the auxillary is empty. The filler pipe fills the auxillary which in turn fills the main.
Apparently the single swing arm is bolted to the chassis through a slit in the original bumper. One reversing sensor is sacrificed in doing this. I don't have cameras to worry about.
OL had both in stock so no wait.
Both Items Aussie made, steel and and well under $3k fitted
