Very interested indeed to hear of folk having a good experience with the Geolanders - this is one of the tyres I have under much consideration for the new 18" rims for the D4. Can you give some kind of feedback re comparative noise levels both around town and at highway speeds? I know they'll be less noisy than serious muddies, but compared to the more on-road oriented tyres?
I can only repeat comments from other owners who report that they are quiet but need to be rotated regularly on vehicles that wear front tyres poorly. From the pictures, I expected the pattern to be more road-biased but am very pleased at the openness of my 17" versions so hope the quiet running reports hold true. I should find out before too long.
Well I just paid out A$1295 for 4 x Pirelli Scorpion Atr (255/60/18) from Tire Rack - just need to find a local fitter around brisbane for a cheap cash-in-hand job...anyone know one?
Hopefully they should be here mid-week next week.
bit the bullett and did the deal with Mack on 5 general grabber AT 2 255x60x18.
the numbers worked out as follows
Tyres & Shipping (economy shipping 3 - 5 days) Total $1506.60 USD
Including currency conversion and the $20 fee from my bank to do the international transfer $1535.54 AUD. This equates to $307.11 per tyre.
The best price I could get locally Jax Tyres was $1845 fitted. $369 per tyre
Allowing an additional $20 per tyre for fitting and disposal of the old buying from the US saved approx $210.
Now all I have to do is sit back and wait for them to arrive on my door step then arrange fitting.
Trobbo - was the cost of tyres over AU$1000 ? If so watch for customs and the 10% GST - that's why I went for 4 this time and I'll add the extra one in a few weeks (when cash is available again !!).
I belive the threshold includes shipping costs anyway.
Beat me to the punch!
....but you need to be careful too. Customs can track previous purchases and if over a total of AU$1000 (including shipping) from the same source in the year they can charge GST etc for the total. You may have to get a neighbour or friend to buy the 5th tyre!
In my case, I brought from Tire Rack for availability rather than price reasons and was happy (?) to pay the GST.
Ian
I had a set sent over, less than $1000 purchase, more with shipping.($1500)
No quarrantine, No GST,charges Did notice that they were held up for 24hrs in Sydney Customs (via FED EX tracking), but released and no charges,
Local guy $10 fit & balance, but no disposal, (off road set)
PS availabilty was my problem, but saving near $500... well :D
Cheers Ken
