HDC Fault

What sort of price will it be. (Read somewhere $75 but want to get a better idea so the missus doesn't get stung)

I've just started to have the same problem went to Perth from Mandurah yesterday (100 kms) happened once on way to perth and twice on way back vehicle has done 88k and had a 4 wheel alignment done about 1k ago, air temperature was 39 / 40 deg and did a scan today with the blackbox and the ems is showing an intermittant low fuel pressure fault. There some other system faults, loss of coms which I think happens when the engine fault trips in
but I could stand corrected, I had the FP and brake mods done last year:(

There is a recall for some of the HPFP that were done last year. Check with your dealer.

I'll have to book her in as it keeps happening. Seems to be after about 20 mins of driving.....and then the alarms come.

Another forum has suggested brake light filament failure/shorting may be the cause, but mine seem to be operating OK.

Hi all
I had similar prob and it was the brake light thing. To fix it , take globes out and using small screw driver gently prizeout the earth contact point in globe holder so a better contact is achieved { copper strip on side } . Havnt had my radio freeze since either.

I think Austral in the Valley do their own.

I wrote on another thread about BMW at Daisy Hill stating that they had aligned mine. About two months later my D4 was in for it's first service and the alignment was out by 6mm. The car had only done about 2000ks since BMW had it. LR stated that although the D3 and 4s are prone to 'pushing' out of alignment due to the independant suss and their weight but there was no way it could have gone out 6mm in 2000ks without the front end being hit......which it hadn't!

I guess you have to be careful who you take it to. Expensive issue once the tyres are worn on the edges.

I had the same problem and it ended up being the brake light switch on the brake pedal - a relatively easy and cheap fix.

Just thought I'd post an update regarding the problem described.

Initially, I only visually checked the brake lights but after the fault occured again I removed them for a proper check.

One of the bulbs was non standard and had the 'locating lugs' at the wrong angles and so wouldn't fit nicely in the socket.

I think a bumpy road had dislodged the bulb very slightly, and caused the 'false' alarms to be activated.

New bulb (with correct lug angles) fitted and all seems to be OK.

Fingers crossed.....

Hey guys, hoping for a quick answer here if possible as its just happened on the road- I've just picked up my D3 from a service including new lower control arms and what not. After driving 5km down the road I had HDC Fault, Special programs not available, vehicle lowering etc. I pulled over ASAP. Turned the car off til the handbrake light went out then started again. Another 5km down the road the same again.

All brake lights seem to be working from a quick visual check and I expect that the fact that it happened twice in the same distances would presume its not the lights?

Another maybe important thing I noticed is that the steering seems to be a bit out. I.e. on a straight line it is as if I am turning the vehicle slightly left when infact I am staying straight...

I presume that its most likely the alignment needs redoing? I'm currently 60 odd km away from home and would it do any damage driving on this for approximately 100kms until I can get it realigned?

I expect your assumption is correct. A degree of excessive tyre wear depending on how far the alignment is out would be the only detrimental effect. The steering angle combined with no difference in individual wheel speeds on straight sections is most likely triggering the fault. The suspension may also lower because the fault will be produced by the ABS ecu.
