And for a bespoke, silent unit that’s perfectly aligned to the profile of the vehicle; Worth every cent

Away for a week staying in Dunsborough. Added the Front Runner rack and the second hand compomotives prior to coming down. First photo at Three Bears and second photo on Bob's Track. Away with a couple of mates with Prado's not really 4WD types so not doing anything too difficult. A bit of fun on the start of Bobs's with the Prado needing a bit of track building to get it up.

The rack has proven to be a problem. Terrible vibration and noise between 55-70 km's and also really bad vibration at different times depending on direction of wind (guessing it's the different wind direction as there seem no consistency in when it occurs when on the highway at 100+ Km/h) will need to work it out as it's not bearable as it is.

A mate with a Defo bolted a length of angle alloy longitudinally along the underside of his FR rack. Front to back along the centre. That removed almost all of the buzz and vibration from the rack at highway speeds. Might be worth a try?

Thanks DiscoClax, Hopefully a wind deflector will fix but if not I’ll give this a try.

    Cheers David.

Thanks Chops. From a bit of reading and a PM, a deflector seems to be the answer, or at least the first option to try.

Possibly a hint - my Citroen ID19 wagon had a factory fitted roof rack. The front bar was covered by a plastic hose with deep twisted ribs. When this disintegrated as a result of the sun, it became apparent that it was a turbulence generator to stop the noise from the roofrack.

Thanks JDNSW. I've got an awning and a light bar (was also thrown in with the rack) to put on. So my thoughts are to put them on first and see if it improves the vibrations due to changing the air flow. If not I'll add the deflector.

Can the rack be moved back a bit out of the airflow bouncing up off the windscreen?
Is the rack horizontal compared with the wind direction?
Putting on an awning might also make the rack more rigid.
