Gouging ! Australia has turned it into an artform . It's all about Factory Gate Prices , for exports . If it sells in the US for heaps less than here ( where it's built ) , then you're being rooted . Nothing new . It was the
same with UK produced cars , before the Single Market in 1999 .
A Jag XJ6 was a whole Ford Fiesta cheaper in a Belgium Jag Dealer
than in the UK . British car factories screwed Billions out of UK customers
until it became totally legal to just wander over to the EU and bring one
back . My Neighbour collected a BMW335cab from Germany for 71% ( in 2000 )
of the UK price . These days they're becoming competitive , but many buyers
still self import ( 2 year warranty ) vs. home buy ( 3 year warranty ).
If LR recued their perices here by say 20% I reckon they'd sell heaps more - more than enough to make up the difference and then some....
Problem is that (as has always been teh case with Rangies etc) they are an up emselves bunch of ******* who want to be a "prestige" brand.....
This was very evident when we had the top honcho from LR Aus to a club meeting. The section of the market they were aiming for meant that vehicles like the defender are an inconvenience of their heritage. Prestige vehicles was definitively the market sector they want to play in.Quote:

Shipping a Disco from the UK to Oz costs about £1500, a ex-work colleague shipped his D3 out to Melbourne last year. The £1500 was to include all the necessary work / customs / registration once it arrived, so the actual shipping is probably £1000.
The scary thing about that is the fact that cars in the UK are actually quite affordable...or used to be, in relative terms. So to hear that they are so much cheaper on the Continent, just goes to show how MASSIVE the profit really is!!! :mad:Quote:
