Not sure, but the way I read this:
http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roa..._Form_2010.pdf
Question 10 would rule out being able to bring it in under that Scheme.
After further reading me thinks that according to section 5.6 of VSB10, found on this page:
http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roa...ral/index.aspx
then one would need a Letter of Compliance form LRA to be able to import the vehicle.
Yep, its 5% on 4x4. 10% or cars and not sure for luxuary cars. I imported a new chassis and had to pay only 5% as it was classed as a 4x4. handy.
If you buy a car that is less than 22 or 21 years old (not sure which) then you have to own in for a year in the country of origin before you can import into australia.
I know this as I am/thinking of planning to import a vehicle from the UK this year.

I seem to recall it being pretty costly from a tax perspective to bring my G4 RRS into Oz when I first looked into it a year ago, but I'd not had it long and the year ownership element came into it and added a fair chunk to the costs.
Now I've had it more than a year I can keep badgering work to transfer me out there and I'll bring the bugger with me
Sorry mate but since the car was not made in Oz good luck getting a letter of compliance from LRA, these can only be issued by the manufacturer in the country which the car was made, LRA is merely the importer of vehicles built for OZ conditions and cannot verify a vehicle that was built for any other market in the world...
Think about people I am not an educated man but even I made sense of the import laws when trying to import my R33 Skyline instead of buying a used flogged Aussie one, it wasnt easy and a truck load of paperwork went with it, but I didn't ring Nissan Australia and get a letter of compliance, how could they verify a vehicle they knew was not made with this countries design rules in mind...
Nor has anyone costed in the cost of insurance whilst freighting these vehicles over.
The cost of holding charges on the wharves.
Etc...
Show me one Car importer that has dropped their prices since the Aussie dollar strengthened...
Name just one please... Anyone?...
I read somewhere about imported car prices, I seem to recall that the article said that dealerships/importers locked in prices in Au $ with the supplier for up to 18 months at a time.
This was to avoid constant price changes so they could better manage the financial side of the business, after all a bank would like to know your cost of goods if they are going to give you a lone.
So that way they can plan at least 18 months ahead knowing how much their stock will cost.
