    Hi Greg

Was prepared to overlook the Forrest H/way given it is pretty new but roads that are over 40 years old is not good.

Didn't have the nav on when on the Gibb River last year so maybe a good thing. Interestingly the Oodnadatta track is mapped even if you are ocassionaly off to one side.

    fine scale needed sometimes

I had somewhat the same problem here in Canada with what is now a two lane paved highway not showing up.

Now known locally as the Cowboy Trail, originally the "highway" was a drovers trail thru the foothills paralleling the Rockie Mountains for driving cattle to the rail head. The trail is over a hundred and fifty years old and picked up the big cattle ranches such as that owned by the late King Edward VIII, (known as the EP Ranch).

When I travel to a ski/mountain area in southern British Columbia, I prefer that routing as the road is very scenic and little travelled, except by cows, deer, and pickups. As one might expect, one fills up the fuel tank prior to diverting on to the route.

I did find the trail in the data base but only at fine scale. To program the track in, I used all the way points that the NAV allows, (and still would prefer a few more). I had to force the route so to speak, as the NAV program wanted to use main highways rather than what the data base still figured were cattle trails.

Also since the pavement has not always followed the original cattle trail, at times when driving, the GPS location is out on the old track rather than on the relocated road. It is a good thing that LR does not provide an autopilot function such that the steering following the NAV, aircraft style.
