Oil weeping from air intake hose

After considerable searching I have not been able to find a similar thread, so here goes for my first question on this forum.
Yesterday while cleaning the alloys on my Disco 3 TDV6 , i noticed a stain of oil on the RHF chassis, on closer inspection and removal of the plastic guard, I found that the oil appears to be weeping from a clamp on the air intake as it exits what I presume is the intercooler. Should I be concerned about this OK?
A bit of background info may help. I purchased the vehicle privately in Nov, it had 92k on the clock, now has 96k. When purchased the oil level appeared high on the dipstick and the foam sound deadener under the engine cover appeared to have been saturated in oil at some point and had started to disintegrate badly. I had the vehicle serviced by an LR dealer. Upon return from the dealer the oil level was still high (up to the knob above the full mark on the dipstick), also the oil light can take up to 5 seconds to extinguish when cold. I have removed 1.1 litres of oil to take the level down to full mark on the dipstick. The dealer invoice shows 8.0 litres of oil for the service .

if the oil around the intercooler plumbing, my guess is that you have a leak at the turbo. Are you blowing blue smoke?
I'm surprised your LR dealer didn't find this.

    Thanks Owl,
I was a bit worried it may have been the Turbo. I have not noticed smoke of any colour.
Would the high oil level be a contributor?
To give the dealer there due, the service was done end of Jan and the oil weep looks quite recent and also looks quite clean (not sooty), I was cleaning it up after we had just returned from our shakedown cruise with the Disco and van, just a short 700k trip to Castlemaine and back over 5 days, when I noticed it. This trip was to test the Disco's capabilities, as this is the frst LR I have owned as well as get our checklists in order, as we are resuming vanning after a break of 35 years. The Disco performed very well, to me it accelerates well and pulls well. I did not molly coddle it and kept it at 100kph on the open road. The trip up with a head wind returned 16.5 l/100k and the return trip 14.5 l/100k. the van is 2.7 tonne GTM.

Could the oil be from the rocker cover vent/blowback? wonder if you can fit a pro vent to one of these?

    Hi

If the oil is inside of your turbo to interclloer hose keep a eye on it as the hose can delaminate on the inside there is a heavier duty one avalible. Or if the budget allowes you could go for a silicone hose. Some oil is fairly normal.

Mine had a small leak where the hose meets the bottom of th intercooler. Just normal oil contamination from the turbo. REmoved cleaned and tightened up prperly, no issues since.

Hi Morrie, Coincidental timing .... I had my intake hose off on the weekend and found a nice pool of oil in the bottom of the intake hose and a leak in the intercooler at the base of the hose connection. Fortunately i have already arranged for an intercooler upgrade from allisport in the UK including silicone hoses. Aswell as {following recommendation from BAS} installing EGR blanks. I should have it all installed by next week {time permitting}. You may want to consider something similar if the oil leak continues , Just a thought mate.

Wink Slight oil weep, same same.......

    Hi there,
I've had two D3s and both have had a slight weep around the bottom intercooler hose connection. I haven't associated this with any over filling or turbo problem. I did the same as mentioned earlier and cleaned the connection and put a better quality clamp on, no problem since.
Synthetic oil when warm is very searching and will find the smallest leak path. Especially when in a vapour (ish) form. Me I'm not overly concerned.

Thanks to all for the advice and info, I have decided to clean it up and keep an eye on it as there are no other abnormal signs like smoke and oil usage. If any thing else comes of it I will post the info here.

    Thanks, Morrie.
