What is the advantage over the plastic one? - I understood the steel one does not have the filter in it that provides a level of protection to the gearbox.Quote:

Steel one was originally made for the Ford Territory where the plastic one would get holed. Not an issue for LR due to underbody protection.

I suppose they have had a bit more practice recently as i know there has been 3 other disco3's done since mine, not including yours Richard. They may be bulk ordering the pans to cut down on the transport costs.
Oh well is all good, at least there is one good source of gearbox servicing in Perth.

Many report that there's nothing on the filter pad when it's
replaced . Just changing the fluid through twice saves a heap
of trouble and a fair amount of money . Then there's the leaking
new parts possibility .............. it amuses me that whenever there
is a new bit to buy/fit/replace with , some just have to buy it .:lol2:
