Keep in mind that almost every vehicle engine is de-tuned. You will find that your Disco driveline, gearbox, diffs etc have been designed to take way more power & torque than what is being delivered to it now.
I have learnt that the most important issue with chips, is exhaust temperatures. Some chips can be adjusted by yourself with the turn of a screwdriver. If adjusted too high, the exhaust temperatures can run very high, causing overheating of engine, turbo etc.
I believe that the re-maps are the go.

Very good point about EGT's and my main reason on ChipIt. ChipIt will detune
the tune if EGT's get to high.
Another good thing is the Disco has EGT sensors standard, so even if you do go too hot, then car should go in performance restriction mode.
Not that this is a perfect nor ideal way to tune the car, but its a safety net nevertheless if you are going to use those plug in boxes.
So Dorko , your system of choice is "Chipit" . infact an add on box , not a remap at all .
Why does the Chipit web site offer no choice for Landrover , such as for TD5 or TDV6 or SDV6 , matter of fact they dont mention landrover anywhere including all those testimonials .

Just how does this chipit take the torque from 354nm to 750-800NM ?
400HPHONGAS, I have a D4 3L. Not sure why you are referring to a Nissan.... infact I re-read the thread and no word of nissan came up.. :angel:
Anyway, I've had a BF XR6 remapped, BFII XR6T ute remapped 3 times over different stages as I added a inter-cooler, cat upgrade, injectors etc..., a Freelander 2 and now the Disco 4 with Steinbaurer and now ChipIt. Also in July the wifes G6ET will be remapped with new injectors and a custom tune.
I'm no expert in how the tunes work exactly... but I think i do have a good idea about performance and fuel economy when talking about chips vs remaps/ custom tunes.
In regards to the ChipIt website, i have no idea about why they dont have LR feedback or in the search engine. However I would be happy to go on the website as i am one happy customer! In fact i'm sure when i get time to get over the dyno with Justin I probably will go on the website. :angel:
In regards to the module, yes it is a small box (Half the size of a can of coke) and holds the tunes. You could option for a generic tune if you want like Steinbaurer, DP Chip etc.., but I wanted a proper custom tune design for my requirements which this product can do, unlike a Steinbaurer.
In my opinion this option suits my needs better than a 'full remap' of the ECU. I beleive it works better than flashing the ecu as LR has programmed it with a million of thoughts a second. The ChipIT then kicks in after the ECU but tricking the computer to push my fuel etc. This still allows for the computer to show its normal warning messages and allows LR to do its upgrade without fuss. Plus if the tune did screw up, just take the fuse out of the chip and its back to normal. Bit easier than a hard reset and emailing a guy in another country for help....:angel:. Further more the chip design in Melbourne and its head office is in Perth. So win win for me as I live in Perth. I should also add, ChipIt can even email you the tunes and you can load it in the box yourself. OR if you are tech mechanic you get the software to do it yourself ;)
At the end of the day, everyone choices its products based on experience, customer service, value for money and quality of the product. Personally I would recommend ChipIT for my Land Rover and Xtreme Ford (for the Ford Turbo's) I have had brilliant results and customer service. :D

Dorko , you may have not mentioned Nissan , it just sounded awefully like that it what you were referring to . Have you any imperical evidence of the difference the Chipit box does for the 2.7 TDV6 , something like a before and after dyno run ? I suppose it would be necessary to have the tune checked /setup on a rolling road dyno . Where in Perth can I get a full dyno run done on my D3 TDV6 ?
Seriously , taking the D4 3L from a claimed 600NM to somewhere in the 750-800nm range by just fitting the box , without a much bigger turb or turbs,intercooler and changing the injectors etc etc , is just dreaming !!

For starters, this is a Land Rover forum; not Nissan. Second its the D3, D4 or RRS thread. Really Nissan? Come on...you just wanted to have a BS rant...
A good custom tune can effect the power output quiet alot actually! A stock XR6T is about 220rkw at the wheels and a tune alone got me 265rkw with good EGT's and without leaning the injectors. I dont know if you are aware, the major reason a car doesn't have the max power out of a factory, is due to the emission laws and a balance between power, comfort and fuel economy.
That said, when I get some time to go done to the dyno, I will show you the difference from the Steinbaurer, ChipIt and Stock on a dyno sheet.
The fact is the steinbaurer tune was great, the custom ChipIt is outstanding. The power output on the ChipIt tune feels well over 750nm that I'm sure! And you know what, even if its 700nm it drives better than 600nm in every way.
Don't worry, I promise to post the dyno sheet up!

With remaps, the tuner can dictate how much smoke or performance you want/can tolerate. With interceptor boxes - they usually just dump more fuel and boost the turbo.Quote:

You can get a remap (eg DNS, BAS), but the tuner requires your ECU to do the tune, ie no remote tuning for the owner is available. In the case of the former, torque is raised from 600NM to 740NM. You can get a plug-in box, such as Steinbaurer, Spider or ChipIt. However, I doubt the ChipIt will provide more than 740NM - that seems to be the limit most tuners are reluctant to exceed. Even the Jag 3.0 ltr tuners keep below this limit, and that's for club circuit work.
I'm hoping to directly compare the DNS remap with a ChipIt box with a couple of my customers' cars, so we'll see how they drive back-to-back.
