I wonder if there's some kind of pole that can be linked to the disco4 sore & a us site so we can get a number figure of all those interested.

Just some gear that I found. Not sure what it even connects to... I think the most useful lead could be the 'Parrot' lead.

I always thought the Freelander 2 shared a similar system to the Discovery 3 but this is also lurking in the bay..

There have been quite a few CE based GPS units come up on Alibaba (a wholesale site that is used by lots of Chinese manufactures) that are very similar to the Freelander one.

Guaranteed100% for Landrover Discovery 4 car dvd player with GPS original design products, buy Guaranteed100% for Landrover Discovery 4 car dvd player with GPS original design products from alibaba.com

When these first came on (I noticed them around Christmas) the price was about $1550US but there are now ones listed for around $1250. I think over the next few months they should keep coming down in price. I have emailed a few of the poeple and you can get single units paying with PayPal (for buyers protection) from most of them. I've asked a few questions but the people who answer the emails don't really know much about the product. Some of the features seem contradictory...

I still don't understand how much these units integrate with the existing system or how much it just sits ontop of it. There are some utube videos that show them fitted and the menu button on the panel under the screen working. Would be great to see one in action.

Be careful of Alibaba, many have been scammed.

D4 No Nav to Nav... DONE

Hey guys. I have just installed one of the eBay/Alibaba Discovery 4 GPS upgrades. I'll try and do a full write up when I get time but thought I do a quick post as I know a lot of people are wanting to do the same thing.

    I purchased one of these
Landrover Discovery 4 DVD Player/Gps/Bluetooth/TV/Radio/MP5/Phonebook | eBay from the same seller. I made an offer and after some negotiation the price was around $1300AUD delivered with an external digital TV box. Selina the person I spoke to was absolutely fantastic. Postage was very quick and communication was excellent. I think the price will probably come down over the next few months as it is still very new but I've got baby number two coming next month and couldn't wait.

The installation will take some time but isn't very hard. The hardest part with the install is to take apart the dash and remembering to put it back together in the same order! The instructions are not very clear (they are in Chinese so is the instruction manual) so you are better off following the GVIF installation instructions that you can get off disco3.co.uk (let me know if you can't find them).

To wire this up almost all you have to do is unplug the old screen and plug in the new one. It then (almost) totally integrates with the current stereo. It is awesome! All the original buttons and functions work and you can control the original CD player and Radio with both the new touch screen and all the old controls. It even integrates with the canbus so that if you change the time on the new system it changes and displays the time on the instrument cluster. I say it almost totally integrates because it doesn't use the factory Bluetooth. This is both good and bad. It is good because it supports Bluetooth music and the factory doesn't but it is bad because I don't think the sound quality is as good as the factory. (I haven't used it much yet I'll keep you posted).

I only installed this today so haven't fully tested it but so far am very very happy.

There are some tricks with the install and setting up igo and the gps that it would help to know so if you get one of these before I post a full write up let me know and I'll give you some more info.

Disco4pilot, Can you remind us what exact screen & audio you are coming from to put this in?

Is the graphics quality as poor as it looks in their pictures?

Are there any gaps or misalignment of the screen to the surrounding trim?

    Regards,

    Les.

Just the standard one that came in the SE.

There are no gaps or misalignment with the screen.

Are the graphics as bad as an out of focus flash photo of the screen with the protective plastic still on... do I have to answer that.

I had a look at the eBay auction that Disco4Pilot linked to, and at first it wasn't immediately obvious (at least not to me) that one of the "images" in the body of the auction was actually a video link. Look for the one with the stylus on the corner of the screen, and you can click the "Play" icon. It's 7 minutes and seems to cover a lot of the functions.

    Otherwise [ame="http://s892.photobucket.com/albums/ac122/jessicaxu16/LANDROVER-FREELANDER%202/?action=view&current=1b36c521.mp4"]LANDROVER-FREELANDER 2 :: 1b36c521.mp4 video by jessicaxu16 - Photobucket@@AMEPARAM@@http://vid892.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid892.photobucket.com/albums/ac122/jessicaxu16/LANDROVER-FREELANDER%202/1b36c521.mp4@@AMEPARAM@@vid892@@AMEPARAM@@892@@AME PARAM@@ac122/jessicaxu16/LANDROVER-FREELANDER%202/1b36c521@@AMEPARAM@@mp4[/ame].

Can't wait for the write up!

I'd be interested in seeing the reverse camera performance, and the bluetooth. Ideally it would have supported the factory bluetooth...
