It could be :p

It can be made to be easily removable, I didn't as I plan on leaving it on.
The bolt underneath is Locktited in, you can replace the Allen keyed variant with a hex bolt to make it easier if you wish to R&R when required.

There was a fault with my carrier. The big pin, that has a bolt at the end was all burned. It was supposed to be stainless.
Dolium apparently offer this part as replacement and have them on hand.
All good now. Locks in place and does not hit the car.
Just need to sort the sensors out.
Parking sensors ok when wheel is not on, so the cure is to somehow keep the sensors from looking at the wheel.....bar does not set them off.

I built a rear wheel carrier for a customer's D3, to his design, and it involved cutting the end off the chassis under the bumper. I wasn't too keen on the idea, but I heard that other carriers required the same mod. Has anyone done this ? I think it was about 50-60mm cut off to allow room for the stub axle, bracket etc underneath the plastic bumper.
I was happy with the result in the end, but don't really like cutting the chassis.

The dolium website that supplies the front runner wheel carrier has the fitting instructions.....this shows the cutting required.

Just been looking at this thread, and can anyone see any reason why you couldn't have 2 of this style carrier, 1 on either side.

I guess it comes down to if the original rear bumper frame would be strong enough to handle the weight.

Would be interested in people's thoughts.

My plan is to make one for the right side that can have the wheel positioned towards the centre in the usual spot but can also have the wheel moved to the right to allow space for a 2nd wheel on the left side. I don't anticipate any problems supporting 2 wheels on the original bumper. My design has the riser mid-way between the 2 positions with the wheel-mount flange off centre, to be flipped left or right as required. Extra lights will be required with 2 wheels mounted and as I don't want to have to use extra lights normally, the wheel will be inwards for normal use.
