As promised the snorkel install was started today.. then stopped after my first read of the instructions. The snorkel supplied states D3 2.7L TDV6 on the instructions. A quick call to Safari & I'm informed the hardware is all the same only a slight change in the template location for the D4..
If the change wasn't the location of the 4 holes that are needed to be drilled through the RH guard I wouldn't be worried, but they are. Now seeking up to date instructions for the D4 fitting...
Am thinking of having a safari snorkel fitted as well. Just wanted to ask is there any air noise when cruising at 100-110kph from the snorkel.

Hardly any noise from either LR RAI or Safari Snorkel. In fact, I think the RAI is noisier at slower speeds- when the driver's window is down - due to the intake being at the back... you hear induction noises.
Anyone noticed any change in fuel economy after the safari one has been fitted?
The D2 used slightly more fuel after i had a safari snorkle fitted.
Yes there is a slight increase in noise, but you would be hard put to hear it with the windows up. At low speeds with the window down, you can hear the diesel gargling. A side effect of all this, is that there is actually less buffeting with the window down on the drivers side, as the snorkel breaks up the airflow. I have not noticed any increase in fuel usage. I would think that would be hard to measure.Quote:

Wouldn't the ram effect of the intake facing the apparent wind actually improve the air inflow and thus more likely reduce the fuel consumption? I would think the air velocity ( read speed ) would have to be a lot more than the average 4WD is capable of, and with an far larger opening to have any measurable performance increase.....but I am no engineer!Quote:

I find that the induction noise is much worse on the D4 then with my previous GU patrol at low speed and only noticeable on both with windows down. When I sat in the passenger side on the GU noise was similar but much more quiet. Maybe worse on the D4 due to the need for more air....more air and more fuel equals more power ?
Cruising.....no real noticeable difference.

Install went alright, I contacted Safari & the D3 template can be used only it's lined up with the upper crease in the F/R fender & end of the fender panel. My only issue was the 6mm bit used to drill holes in the A pilar was not good enough. I thought the $25 hardened steel bit was good, but not good enough apparently.Quote:
