I run 245/70/17 BFG KM2 MT on my 2.7 D4.. No rubbing, no trouble with spare and a little extra clearance. Great tyre, just a little noisy at low speeds.
Although I only use them for bush trips I could live with them if I didn't have the original wranglers.
My 245/70-17 Yokos (same nominal OD as 265/60-18) rubbed the top of one of the rear wheel liners recently when doing some experimenting that ended-up with the vehicle on the bump-stops. It was possible to keep moving slowly but larger tyres could have been quite a challenge.
Got my 245/70/17 BFG A/T's last week,slight more road noise,hardly noticable.Haven't been off rd yet,but they were excellent on the D2
I know this thread is about 18's ,but another thing about 17's,the stock rims are 7".Some rims that fit the D3/4,/possibly X5,are 8 or 7.5",which allow fitting of sizes that will not fit the 7" rims.
As said by gordon,you must check the load rating,not just wether they are LT or PS tyres.The Cooper zeons are PS yet have a high load rating.
I spoke to BFG themselves as i was thinking of the Rugged Terrains,instead of the AT's,but was concerned about the strenght of the tyre,particularly after looking at the tyre data on the BFG website.Their advice was the rugged were nowhere near as strong as the A/T,particularly in the sidewall,although they both have the same load rating in LT configuration.Rugged terrain is available in PS in some sizes.
Rugged terrain is definitely quietter than the A/T,but i wouldn't call the A/T noisy.

From memory you run 265 x 70 x 17.
I just bought a set for my new ride - ATZ 4 Rib
Spare fits & is inflated!!!!
Don't have to get dirty to get it either!!!
