Disco 4 off road tyres

Hi evryone i have read through this thread and lots of good info, i was getting a bit frustrated after talking to three tyre dealers in metro melbourne and none of them could help me.

I see a couple of options for all terrains but i was hoping to find a mud terrain solution. I belive that i can fit 17" rims on the 2.7 but even thats not as easy at it seems trying to find a rim that is the right offset and allows for the right number of threads on the nut. I know of a set of d3 18" landrover rims for sale that i thought if i could get some 18s muddies, i can have a road tyre and an offorad set. But that has been any easier as well.

Any help would be greatfully received and also help on a good tyre dealer in melbourne wouldnt go astray.

Hi George,

I have a set of Australian made 'Performance Wheels' model name BB6. They look good on the vehicle and you can specify what off set you want and their load rating is the same or higher than D3 wheels from memory.

Or you can look at various BMW wheels like Barry (Redback) has. He reckons they are the go and they do look good on his D4.

Hi George - I don't believe there are any 18" muddies in a size range that will fit an unmodded vehicle.

Speak to Michael from Tyrepower Camberwell.
He has a great knowledge of tyres and is a member of this forum. Also does great wheel alignments.

If you want to limit tyre issues,i would go for 17's,and make sure you get a LT rated tyre.There are LT's in 18"s but they will be bigger than the OEM size & will rub etc.
The LT's in 17" are available in OEM size or very similar,such as 245/70/17.

One thing i absolutely HATE is having tyre trouble while in remote areas..........:mad:

Having changed to LT tyres around 10yrs ago on both the D2a & now on the D4,i have never changed a tyre.And thats after a couple of long Cape trips,desert trips,etc,etc.

Don't get me wrong,an LT tyre can still be destroyed,but it will be the most robust tyre that fits the D3/4.

I think I will either look for some ATs on 18s, or i like the idea of running some muddies on 18s like the maxxis tyres with the GOE rods link... sounds too good to be true... bit like Buz01 setup .. that works for me

as someone at work said $140 for a 3" lift, now thats cheap! I will also give Michael a call at Tyrpower Camberwell as he seems on to it.

Hi George, I have a set of Maxxis Bighorn muddies on some BMW X5 rims for my D3 and use them for weekend outings and so far all good. They are 265/70/17LT, a bit noisier but to be expected.
The tyres were a bit over $300 ea and the X5 rims $200 for the 4 off ebay,plus $60 for the correct wheel nuts sent from the USA.
Have just put them back on as I"m heading to the high country tomorrow for the weekend. Tyrepower in Canterbury Rd Surrey Hills looked after me very well and would recommend them.
Id go some muddies and keep road tyres for daily use.

I am interested to know what wheels you have and what type of wheel nuts you got. I have a set of BMW 17" rims but need to get some wheel nuts to suit.
