Mobile phone mount options?

Lotz-A-Landies, this is close to what I am after. below is a picture of my Pajero with the lether mount and Bury/blackberry cradle FYI. I am hoping to get something like this for the D4.

Good thing is that I ahve the iPhone 4s now and can have Siri talk to me .....in place of SWMBO and the 4 kids :angel: :p. Just wish the voice commands for the D4 were little more intuitive/functional.

I will try Kuda in the US and Dash Mount in hte UK and see what response I get and let you know.

So far I haven't found a leather covered dash pod, It would bebetter to conceal the cables. The bracket I have came from Dashmount in the UK.

I didn't like the idea of blocking the vents or having to reach across the dash to stick the phone in the holder so I used a Brodit mount (654412) with a powered (Active) holder for my Motorola Defy+. I didn't like the way these two placed the phone partly in front of the vent and partly behind the steering wheel so I cut off the raised mounting surface from the mount, discarded the swivel from the back of the phone holder and fabricated my own bracket (out of some scrap 2mm Al) to place the phone where I can see it easily without having to take my eyes too far from the road.

To power the holder I took 2 feeds (seperately fused) from the right hand lighter socket, one to power the holder and the other to a surface mount lighter socket that I placed under the dash just above the left footrest. This powers a TomTom which I run seperate to the SatNav and has speed camera POI's loaded on it. The feed to the holder runs nicely behind the lower panel and fits perfectly into the groove of the dash.

On a seperate note I also purchased the lower mount (854413) intended for LHD D3/4's which I will use to hang the remote mic from the GME TX3540 within easy reach. Once again I'll probably cut off the raised mounting piece and fix the holder flush against the mount.

My set up is almost identical to Rufuskings.

I have a mount and cradle from proclip (seems the same a Brodit) for my phone that mounts next to the vent just behind the steering wheel. It originally had a swivel but this made it too close to the indicators so I took this off. I find it easy to see and can quickly select a number or use siri. I don't find the steering wheel gets in the way or find it an issue with the vent and proximity to the indicators but that is just me. I do like the way Rufuskin has put a higher mount on though that looks neat. The cradle I got has a pass through connector and I have a cable from ebay that has charging and audio out so I can charge the phone and use the aux out on my stereo. I had to get this from Hong Kong as all the apple cables are WHITE!!!

I have the same mount as Rufuskings for my UHF as well except I went for the right hand drive version (so its on the left of the console). It is angled towards the driver and easy to see. I can easily reach it from the drivers side without looking or leaning too much. I thought of getting the left hand drive version but thought it might get in the way of my knee. The passengers knee didn't worry me as much :D. In the end I don't think this would have been an issue. I find that I usually have someone sitting in the passenger seat when I'm four wheeling so it works out well. The mounts are great as they easily clip in and out so when the car is being used as mums taxi I take it off and keep it in the glove box. In the photos it looks to be a slightly different black but this is just the way the flash is being reflected the colour match it pretty much spot on.

In the end I'm very happy. They were quite expensive but then hey so was the car :D!!

The kit from Dick Smith includes a steel piece for the dash, it holds with double sided tape, though I use contact adhesive as the tape comes off in hot weather!

This is confusing me....why are so many of you needing mobile phone mounts?

I don't get it. The car has bluetooth so what's with all the fuss about sticking an ugly phone mount in the way.

I guess battery recharge but that is easy enough from the dash 12v.

Can't say I've ever needed one so I don't really know.

A number of reasons, first off they aren't just phones any more. When driving long highway stretches and I find the local radio less than entertaining I stream internet radio through the LR audio. The good thing about Telstra NextG is I get voice and data coverage in the most obscure places even half way across Bass Strait. Then there's checking things through the bluetooth ODB (OBDKey) and I even use the phones phone features so I don't need to take the map off the inbuilt system. Android/Motorola have a great a reat CarDock widget that gives big bottons so you don't have to fiddle with small icons and menues. Plus the phones always charged and there's no cables laying around. Shall I go on?

Actually if this isnt about having a spot to hook into an aerial to boost your signal, Ozzy maybe has a point? I like being able to bring the phone to me...
