D4 2.7 or 3.0. Is it worth it?

The dealers are in a business selling new cars, to keep used cars on the lot they (not Land Rover) have to give a warranty and still make a margin.

Seeing that you change cars regularly, perhaps you would have been better leasing the car and upgrade at the end of lease instead of paying the residual.

Don't have anything to contribute but this is a really painful thread to read.

I never tow, do less than 10k a year and have been driving a 300tdi Defender since 2004. Of course the 2.7 will be adequate, and I'll love its performance, but the 3.0 is better.

$15000 is just nasty.

I'm still driving the Defender, I know I want a D4 but this engine issue is really making me unhappy. At least while I sit in sullen frustration doing nothing I'm giving my small mortgage a right seeing to.

(oh, and this voice in me says two months after I bite the bullet and get a 2.7, they'll release a new model with a 3.0 as standard)

Got the 3L it's absolutely fantastic, only tow a 6x4 cage trailer to the tip & the very occasional vehicle trailer.. Considered the 2.7, knew I'd always be unhappy, but kind of wished I'd test driven a V8 as well. You can't beat the sound of a TDV8..

I've only had the SDV6 just over 2 months and the model due out here by the end of the year will have an 8 speed auto.

Perhaps you can convert your Fender with the 2.7 TDV6 out of a Ford Explorer, essentially the same engine, made in the same Ford Dagenham plant and will be a lot cheaper than trying to get the donk our of a wrecked D3/D4/RRs.

Have had a TDI since 1997 and also a few years back a V8...both gave/give good service.....just picked up a new SE 3.0 D4 after trying both 2.7 and 3.0.........did not have to pay as big a margin as I thought and the 3.0 is so much better IMO. Dealer was indicating that the 2.7 is being dropped shortly...not sure how right he is.....biggest problem with driving it is I can't stop smiling.....:)

Brother is looking to trade his SE D3 V8 on a 3.0 and trade in was appalling.....then the dealer told him to wack another 10,000 kms on it so it did not have to be sold with the statutory warranty and they could pay him an extra $10k.......crazy but they are aiming to cover their arses in the warranty the gov makes them give on old vehicles.

Or the D3

And if you're talking about teh 4.4 petrol V8, I'd take the 3.0 SDV6 over that anyday if the week. The diesel's got waaaaay more punch to it.

Driving a TDV8 engined RRS or FFRR is just a recipe for financial ruin though as the *need* for one becomes very strong :p
