Anyone got the cubby box fridge ?

Just watch, there will now be a mass order of clips from all across Australia:)

From some of the comments on here I assumed that the fridge will switch itself off after a period of time after switching the ignition off. However on the UK forums some people are having problems with flat batteries caused by forgetting to turn the fridge off. They claim once on the fridge will stay on until the battery runs down.

A bit confused I went and tested mine and it certainly stayed on when the ignition was turned off. So beware of this if you don't want flat batteries.

So two questions?

1. What voltage can the battery get down to before there are problems starting the car?

2. You can buy voltage cut off gizmos that switch fridges off when voltage drops but is there a small equivalent I could buy to fit in the wiring harness under the console?

Mine turns off after about 30 minutes or there abouts, might be an idea to check it after 40 minutes or so?

Hi Garry,

On my D4 l leave the cooler turned on. It activates 2-3 seconds after starting the engine and turns off almost immediately when the engine is turned off. Obviously different to what you are experiencing in the RRS.

It's probably that they expect Range Rovers to have better batteries and Discoveries will have cheap ones that need protecting! :twisted: :p

I don't think it is supposed to be doing that either - should stay on a bit like Terry's does.

I'm not overly fussed by the immediate cut-out. It still maintains coldness for some time after switching off. Terry (l think) has a D3. Perhaps a bit different to the D4 ?????

Its been a few months since we put these cubby fridges in and mine works great - takes a little while to cool items down and the bottom is cooler than the top but over all works great.

As mentioned in my car the power is not switched so I have to make sure I turn it off if I am going to park for a while.

Ideally I would like a switch that will turn it on automatically when I turn the ignition on and will keep the power on for say 2 hours when I turn the ignition off.

Does anyone know of such a switch and if they exist where I could get one.
