2nd hand info, if it's not correct I stand corrected.
If you like to follow up it comes from this forum, www.aulro.com - 144429-2-7-vs-3-0-tdv6-worth-extra-post1631251 you tell me if it makes it sound like the LC200 has an 8 speed transmission?

If the new entry level Disco starts at 90k then LR can say good bye to a large percentage of their sales which they won't want to see happen.
Like most run out sales that happen in the industry LR will try to keep quite as long as possible on what they will soon bring in as the entry level model so as not to stall the sales on what is in stock or is being ordered otherwise people will just wait or ask to wait for the upgrade.
Hard to imagine they won't have a similar priced entry level model to what they have now, even with the present currency fluctuations.
cheers,
Terry
They can bring in anything they want, we won't be buying another new LR product as long as my arse points to the ground.
Baz.
As in you're not happy with Landrover or the product or you plan for your current Disco to last the duration?
The 8 speed box is essentially an Emissions control exercise.
Once you are moving it misses most of the lower gears.
If you drive like there's a poison stake on the accelerator then you may save a bit of fuel. And even then only in full on traffic (and you would have to take off so gently the guy behind will want to Road Rage your arse!).
The whole idea is to map the ECU for emissions testing - so the engine and transmission ramp softly, low RPM per gear keeping under the threshold for higher penalty...
All it does in reality is adds more points of complexity to the labyrinth, valves etc and more to stress...
Dont be a bunch of "Number hunters"....
I see how that post reads.Quote:

It replaces a Lexus ISF 311kw 5 litre V8 with an 8 speed box. It was by far the best car I've had, the gearbox changes couldn't be felt under normal driving conditions and it managed to average under 9 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway. Just not to practical with a growing family.
Don't assume 8 speeds is necessarily bad.
