I cannot figure out how to get my ScanGauge II to display the automatic transmission temperature. If the Torque app can find it, then the ScanGauge should as well - I just wonder how?
    Yes it does

Ive been using the torque plus app for quite some time, and as Graeme says , there is NO communication with the Transmission, suspension, braking ECU's .Its purely limited to engine codes /parameters and only if Landrover decided to comply with the standard codes. The app will display a lot more parameters than the ECU will supply standard OBD2 data for , eg engine oil pressure and temp ,the app has it , the siemens ECU wont supply it .
The Faultmate MSV-2 extreme is a nice sytem that will do /analyse/reset all car sytems , but its $1300 , the Torque app and a quality OBD2 reader is around $130 .
In the middle would be the BAS system that offers Tune/map upgrades $900
You get whay you pay for .Theres heaps more like Hawkeye, scantool etc etc

Is it a,coincidence that normal water temp and trans temps are allegedly 87 deg C?

OK I think I am getting a little confused! am I reading here that someone is reading D3 auto transmission temperature using the Torque Pro app?

The other school is saying there is no communication with the transmission. So am I correct in saying no transmission temperature is displayed with the Torque app? or for that matter Scangauge.

    ????

I read it as you cannot read transmission temps.
I can only read water temp which matches the tranny temps mentioned earlier.
400hpongas has used torque pro extensively and he knows what he is talking about.

Just to be clear, I currently only have a Faultmate so am not commenting on what is possible using other software and hardware.

However I have ordered a cheap motor vehicle OBDII reader which will be used to monitor all canbus messages on my tractor's recently-fitted implement guidance system that uses the same underlying J1939-11 standard as many motor vehicles. Once I have the necessary information, I hope to build a simple interface to control my sprayer's boom section valves as the guidance system's interface costs about $4K. A microprocessor will be connected directly to ELM327 chip in the OBDII reader, bypassing the chip that is programmed to only request specific engine emission-related data.

    Hi Rollin over,
I assume that this particular model suits the 3.0Lt.
I purchased one off ebay last year, only to find out that it didnt suit the 3.0Lt........and that there wasn't one available for it as yet.
Luckily I was able to cancel my order before it was too late.

Not knowing much about them.......do you leave the OBD reader plugged in all the time??

    Cheers, Craig.

Thanks every one for your input, again this forum proves to be a valuable source of knowledge and information.

    My interpretation of this thread.

At this point it appears that Torque Pro and ScanGauge II will not read specific transmission temperature in our D3/4 RRS vehicles.

Diagnostic Service instruments are available at a much higher cost as indicated by 400HPONGAS (Thanks for your input) but are not primarily designed to add to or supplement information of our instrument panels under normal driving conditions.

    Back to the drawing board

    Cheers all

    Howard

I dont leave my reader plugged in....it does not shut off.
That model above your quote, should suit just about all cars with the OBD2 port.....I have the same and I have fit it to more than 10 friends cars and all works fine (all different cars)
