I've had my D3 V6 Petrol for nearly 3 years with no engine or transmission problems. It IS thirsty around town but good (11-12L /100Km) on long trips, fully loaded and with an ARB bar. It is VERY comfortable; it is VERY quiet - everyone who has travelled with us has commented on how quiet and smooth it is. Without doubt, the best car I have ever driven. However, IF I had the dollars I would like to go to diesel to improve the range it has.

I have had my V6 for five Years. I had a Haltech chip fitted by graham Cooper in Sydney. On a trip fully loaded four passengers and luggage to Queensland 2580 km and averaged 10 litres per 100 km. Also did a six week trip up north with a 3 ton caravan and averaged 18 litres per 100 over 4500 kms.Great car and much cheaper than a deisel.

Diesels are great but check out how many TDV6's have failed compared to V8's, this is a potential issue if you are purchasing a vehicle with no warranty. Can anyone even remember someone on here ever mentioning about a V8 that has blown up?
Plus when new the V8 was more expensive than a TDV6 so it may have made financial sense then, now the opposite is true by on average by about 5 to 10k. That's a lot of fuel you can buy and then on top compare service costs of both and the V8 starts to make a lot of sense.
Congrats on 6.9 litres per hundred that is pretty impressive, I do alot of country freeway driving and best I can get from our 2.7 is on average between 10.5 and 12 litres per hundred on the highway at the posted speed limit.

I had a D3 2009 V6 SE and it was (is) a great car. I bought it due to perceived $ savings over the TDV6. It served me very well, thirsty, fuel quite costly, especially as recommended fuel is premium unleaded. I was warned by the dealer that if towing I would be stopping to fill it often, and they were right on, however, I would buy one again as it was the right decision for the dollars at the time and served my family, business and I extremely well. I now have a D4 TDV6 3L, and I have to say its impressively better, I am blown away at the minor and major improvments and the amazing performance of the 3 litre deisel. It hardly notices my caravan, so much so I have to be careful not to over do it! D3 Petrol, loved it - a great starter for the LR Disco addiction! Its not a mistake, its just a choice. As far as V6 vs V8. I have no direct LR V8 experience, but I do know that if the gear box is correct/matched for the V8, the engine should run easier. I have owned a non LR petrol V8 in an SUV and its fuel consumpton under heavy load was less than its V6 sibling, but around town, it was a wallet killer and the V6 was better.
Wow, interesting to see the differing opinions, seems that the people who have owned the v6 quite like them,likewise the v8s..my mate will not be doing any towing, but regular trips from Canberra to armidale with kids and all of the luggage that that involves, as well as the odd weekend out bush, total yearly mileage would be no more than about 15k/yr.Thanks once again for the advice.
