Check previous posts there is some stuff on here, I think some people had there columns replaced.. Also check Disco 3 site in the UK.
I think there was a dealer recall on some steering columns or at least work done.
Cheers
Can anyone point Me in the right direction(no pun intended) 2010 Disco 4 HSE 60,000 kms.I bought last month,as soon as I took it out I could feel a "grittiness" through the steering wheel, not there when ticking over or revved up but as soon as I put it into gear the vibration starts as You pull away.It seems worse when under acceleration,It is only slight but was not on My Disco 2 or 3.Imagine a handfull of sand in Your wheel bearings which is the best way to describe it.The sales and service managers both tell Me that they cant feel anything![]()

I told my dealer that I could feel some vibration in the steering wheel, personally I thought it was just warped disks, the car is a 2010 model like yours.
The dealer checked and found several service notes on my car, one of them was that the steering column should be changed if there was vibrations, I left the car there and the dealer changed the following parts:
- Steering column and bushes on the lower forward link arm
- Brake pads, brake disks, front wheel bearings
- I even got a new steering wheel!
The steering is now silky smooth!
Other work they did:
- Installed an equalizer to remove the blue screen phenomena on the surround cameras
- Replaced the battery and battery management unit
In other words, it may be better to ask your dealer to check if there is any service bulletins on your VIN instead of asking them what might be wrong.
Has anyone had the steering column replaced out of warranty and what did it cost? Our car has harshness or 'graininess' seemingly in the drive train that comes through the steering wheel, particularly under acceleration - working at lower revs I guess.
It was improved slightly after getting the auto serviced but still there and noticeable, because my wife comments on it.
The steering column symptoms fit but I'm also thinking things like engine mounts etc? The car's done 190000kms now and I imagine the TDV8 is a bit harder on mounts.
Any experience appreciated.
