My 3.0 RRS (2010) started blowing clouds of blue smoke in February this year, after about 27,000km. Backwards and forwards to the dealer in Perth, two turbo replacements, body-off scavenger pump replacement, 6 months later they washed their hands, ordered a new engine be flown out from England, and problem solved. I've never found out what caused the problem in the first place. But it LR couldn't figure it out, how can anyone else? The 'old' engine (by then about 31,000km) apparently went back to LR.

Since the new engine went in more than 6 weeks ago, I've done a total of 700km. No problems so far, fingers crossed.

It'll be interesting again when it gets to about 25,000km on the new donk.

took my D4 to LR and pointed out the blue smoke problem ....the Technician who took a ride with me to check it out seemed to be familair with the problem ......and knew what needed to be done (somthing about a modifed turbo ....all greek to me ) ................any way suitable modified part was gotten up from Melbourne fitted by LR at Artarmon ......(.always found them to be excellent in looking at problems and fixing them)

after about a month now after i got my car back ....no blue smoke on accelleration ...................so hopefully all is fixed .....

Best of luck. Hopefully the new turbo will fix the problem. Two of them didn't fix it for me, they had to put a new engine in. But I think that's pretty rare. Unlike the blue smoke problem, which seems to be very common.

    Thumbs up

Hopefully I may be ble to clarify some issues here as I have had the "Turbo-charger" changed twice and still blew blue oil smoke. LR have now bought a TSB to modify the return line from the turbo-charge to the oil sump. Apparently the return line feeds back to the sump below the oil level and will not allow the oil to fully return. The TSB changesthe return position of the oil line. It is ODD that it took LR to cooton on tothe problem. I had the second turbo changed not long after a service (only days) I gather the oil must have been over filled (just my thoughts). Anyway I had the TSB carried out about 3 weeks ago and have dne some 3500Ks since and no sign of the problem.
