Thread: Adaptive headlights?

So If I have them .. Or if not, what is the diff from the outside looking at the car?

Do I have to pop the grill and lights to tell?

Heard secret knowledge that when you 'turn on the car they look up, down, left right, but when I'm in the car I can't see ..

Do they have to be on automatic or will just ON do.

It sound like 'if you gotta ask, then you cant afford' / 'aint got' to me?

Ther is a halogen globe in the corner of the light cluster on the adaptives.

Adaptive headlights make little difference if you don't do country night driving where there is no street lighting.

If you want to check go down a dark back street slow down and turn the right indicator on, if you see an area about 3 meters square to the right of your headlight light up then you have Adaptive head lights.

Chances are if you have not noticed your head lights doing the occassional odd thing then you more than likely don't have them.

If you do country back road night driving As we do quite often then they are a god send.

I have them on both Mini's but not the D4.

The D4 throws enough light for it not to be an issue. The less effective Mini lights it is a help.

Sorry but I disagree Mowog, as I have said previously I do a lot of back road country night driving and adaptive headlights are a god send especially on reasonably fast blind corners or when turning into rural driveways with culverts on either side.

I can't comment on the D3 or 4's adaptive light systems as I have never seen them in action....or a Mini for that matter...

But I've got a Merc with them fitted and they are really obvious and effective....be it suburban or rural. The Xenons turn and there is a side light set up that sounds similar to what I've read about the Disco's having fitted.

Even turning into my driveway at low speed is covered by the lights. I don't know where you guys live but the street-lights in alot of areas ain't that grand....maybe I'm just getting old....

Seriously, I often find these tiny "speed Tamers" and other low chunks of cement hard to see sometimes (at night)....the adaptive lights do make a difference. A 35 profile tyre doesn't have a lot of breathing space. I've also been out camping in the D4 which doesn't have them and have wished that I had better round the corner visibilty, when in forests, etc.

Can you live without them?...well my D4 hasn't got them...but I think I'd like them.

You are allowed to disagree (even if you are wrong)

Anyhow your views are based on your experience not mine. I don't do a lot of night driving so the adaptive headlights are not really important to me. They are only on the Mini's because that's how they came.
