265/70/18..Anyone ?

I have run or fitted dozens of oversize tyres to D3's D4's and Sports. If you want pics, PM or email me your email address and I'll send a few.

One would assume that if you're fitting oversize tyres, you are going to be doing a fair bit of moderate to hard off-roading. In these conditions, the wheel articulation is such that you can often get a wheel tucked up to virtually the bump-stops, which is considerably higher into the wheel-well than just access-height. This is (pretty much) regardless of shortened rods or LLAMS.

This is why I say the 265/70R18 won't fit - it will rip your wheel-well liners and itself to shreds. But if you want to waste your money, go ahead. The 265/65R18 will work off-road, but there will still be some rubbing issues at extreme articulation, particularly the front half of the rear wheel-well's. The fix is fairly simple, as described above.

im probably not going to be doing fullon off road stuff, but id hate to happen what you described. Are you able to modify the front 1/2 of the wheel wells to prevent this happening, or is the "fix" not to fit the oversize tyres LOL

Damn I was also keen on the BFG 265/65/18, but less keen if they prevent wheel articulation, and present problems if the car hits bump stops.

Would running these slightly bigger tyres have any noticeable issues with the speedo? And would they likely cause warranty issues?
If so maybe the gg at2 are an alternative choice, they also look as aggressive as the BFG in the AT category?

The BFG rugged terrain is no way as strong a tyre as the All Terrain.

The only way to get a strong tyre with no oversize issues is to go to 17's.

17' rims are not that expensive,there are quite a few different types around.Gordon(gghaggis on here) sells one type.

In the long run,you will be way ahead dollar wise.:)

And have no tyre issues:)

Wow - people are really not reading these posts, are they?!

To reiterate, the 265/65/R18 WILL fit, with minor rubbing that doesn't really need mods, but if you WANT to, you can remove the rear wheel-well liners, bend back the metal seams and refit. I was originally referring to the 265/70R18 size.

There is no real-world difference running these in terms of the car's electronics or mechanical drive train. Your speedo will run around 3% slower, which will give you approx the right reading on the speedo (which is 3 ~ 4 % optimistic). Warranty is between you and your service agent, but there's no reason why they should target them.

265x65x18's might not upset your local Dealer but in some States they will upset your local Coppa and could affect your insurance cover.

I have 265x60x18's fitted to my D3 as every day drivers, the speedo is just about accurate with this size and as far as I remember they are about the largest legal size tyre you can fit to a D3/4 in most Eastern States.

I might check with insurance co first. Technically I'm not changing the offsett or width dramatically. The only issue aside from some rubbing will be the slight error in the speedo and odometer.

Is there a function where u can go to a dealer to alter the correction or camu have your tune altered. I already have the BaS remap with the obd2 reader thingy.

Thanks for your help guys. No one wants to spend 12-1500 on Tyres and find they are way unsuitable.

Thanks Gordon, I had understood your post, but forgive me for being a little cautious. I am going to fit these on a brand new D4, on your 18" rims, to stay on 90% of the time.
So in my mind having spent so much money, is it really worth having ANY such tyre issues at all, even if the rubbing is only slight though. And as others have pointed out if it potentially is illegal and therefore ends up invalidating your insurance, is it worth the risk.
They do look great though on the black D4 on your web site.

In NSW, the 265/65R18 is probably still illegal - in Vic it would be fine. The 265/60R18 would be the safest bet - Cooper ATR, Mickey Thompson STZ, Goodyear Silent Armor etc.
