The front end parts... and why.
My D4 had a minor vibration in the steering wheel under braking... I can see you all thinking warped rotors. Except the vibration didn't happen all the time. There is a certain VIN range that are know to have this issue.
The fix starts with a new steering wheel and goes on from there.
So if you have a minor vibration in your steering under brakes get it checked out.

Because every damn time a car comes in for brake shudder you have to do the following.
Steering wheel, steering rack, hydro bushes, new pads and discs, a wheel alignment and maybe ball joints as well.
It's all easy work it's just so time consuming and I hate working on suspension.
Is it only the bigger brakes on the 3.0 that shudder?
I don't think it's actually the brakes that shudder. I understand it's actually a wobble somewhere in the steering/suspension that's only felt when braking lightly at highway speeds, as a shimmy in the steering wheel.Quote:

I recently had the same work done, replacing the steering rack, etc, etc and the problem has gone away. Glad it was done under warranty as the cost of the work was said to be around $3.5k. I was pretty surprised to be charged for the alignment, though. When I queried it the dealer insisted that LR refuse to include the cost of the alignment in the warranty work. I would have thought it was an unavoidable and necessary part of doing that job.

I can understand a wheel alignment not being a warranty item as such however when it is required as a result of other work that is different - i suspect it is you local dealers interpretation of alignment service item not a warranty item. What if a water pump failed under warranty - would they charge you for the coolant?Quote:

If they called you up and said your car needed a wheel alignment irrespective of the job they were doing, that's a separate issue.
Thanks. Mine started doing it just prior to fitting the 2.7 brakes and hasn't done it since so wondered if the dealers see mostly 3.0s with the problem or whether its regardless of brake disc diameter. Its a bit late now for me to refit the original brakes to see if there's a significant problem. I wonder if the larger discs are less tolerant of minor irregularities in the steering system.Quote:
