Recent trip to Esperance from Perth - about 720k. Took 67 litres to refill. That's about 9.3 l/100k. Those figures are the best I have ever managed but it is also the longest non stop trip I have done with the D4.
Trip computer indicated ~ 8.3 l/100k average.

2.7L I getting about 14l per 100km around town this is in stop start traffic with my average speed well below 30 kph. I have found the short trips from cold push the economy out. The best I have seen was low 9s for an unloaded highway trip below 100kph. Most of my travels are at vmax with camper trailer in tow and fully loaded. I recently was not able to get from cobar to broken hill on one tank and that was only 440lms approx, the 30 kph head wind probably did not help either. All things considered I am happy with economy for such a largealargeand heavy vehicle now if the tank was 100 plus litres instead of 83l that would be great. The most I Have ever put in is 74L indication was 0klms remaining, I think land rover again are conservative on remaining distance, this has many benefits and it is not good to run an engine dry, or pick up the water and other craps at the bottom of the tank.
Very best economy run D4 3.0 MY11 - 812km for 70.50ltrs, 8.68lt/100km; giving a theoretical range of 956km on the 83ltr tank capacity...
Most litres for a fill - 76.28ltrs (only managed 696km that time).
Sheesh, you guys are getting Great consumptions! I struggle to get 500km out of mine(3.0 diesel D4), but must admit that this is mostly short distance daily to work and back in stop start traffic and when I do get on the highway I often run at 120-130km/h (our speed limit in South Africa is a bit more forgiving), so I probably can't complain, but my 10 year old 3.2diesel Pajero gives slightly better consumption, so I thought the newer technology in the D4 would have easily topped it?
Must maybe get it checked out at the next service in a months time.

Best so far for my 3.0 is 800K for a fill of 75.5L. I was not brave enough to push on any further.
I do not drive for economy but to the conditions, but if I have to get around a truck etc I use what power I have so I am not exposed in the right lane for too long.
In 31,000km since March I have used an average of 11.14L/100 according to my spreadsheet.
My Patrol 3.0L could only manage 12.5 for less power and certainly less comfort as the Disco has impressed me no end. Permagrin still there!!

Maybe my 2.7 RRS slips through the air better? I get low 9's (l/100km) every tank. Easy 800km, max fill hasn't gone above 80l (86l tank I think):).

I drive 26k's to work and back, mostly highway. The secret is probably going to work "against the flow" so no stop/start factor :)

As another person suggested, I find that fuel consumption is at its best between 80-100km/h - once hitting 110km/h zones my fuel usages jumps noticeably.

I derived that from actual fuel used over a given distance (ie a tank full of fuel) and the readout from the odometer thus actual litres per 100km (assuming odo is reasonable) against l/100km on trip computer which I reset (Trip A) at every refill, which gave me a variation factor of 1.12. So if the readout says I am averaging X (the great unknown) then I multiply that by 1.12 to get a more realistic (though possibly still not spot on accurate) figure. Hope that helps.Quote:
