Thread: perfect Drifta storage systems!

I got around the spare wheel access problem by stopping the drawers about 6 inches short of the tailgate and use the socket and extension trick between the seats so its always accessible even when fully loaded.

I lose some storage capacity in the drawers but have a handy space behind them for either jerry cans or tables and chairs.

The foam tray comes out easily, but you do have to remove the steel side supports to get at it. The 'tray' underneath is carpet lined. I have a rear mounted spare and do not have to worry about access for the spare wheel nut.

I have messed around a fair bit with this space, and have found it is not practical to access it from the rear cargo area, once you have any sort of drawer set up on top of it. It is simply too easy for items to slide around and get lost.

I found it easier and more practical to 'box' off the sections under each seat, and also put a divider between the 3rd row seats footwell ( I don't have the 3rd row seats to worry about either ) and the under floor area you are looking at. This gives you a fairly deep and long area for storage, and the items don't get lost.

The under seat boxes, I have partitioned to suit specific articles such as the towbar, the jack ( now a screw type ) etc. The boxes are carpet lined for a snug fit, and no rattling noises, and fit a surprising amount of gear. providing you have nothing strapped into the seats ( like another fridge ) they can be accessed in seconds.

It took several versions to get things right, but it was worth it.

I have holes cut in the base of my drawer system which gives good access to the space that my third row of seats took up. I find the space very useful with spares, airbag jack, tyre repair kit, tools in a roll and even my camp oven fits in there. Just take either drawer out to access.

@Admiral - any chance to see a couple of images what you cam up with.
thought about just building a frame for the back no bottom just some compartments so moving around of things would be restricted. Keen to see your under seat set up.

@rich, yes that’s what I was envisaging wasn't sure whether drawer width allows enough room for access to back part but seems like you got it

I have had dramas getting the pics, and even this second set did not work well. I hope this lot at least load up.

The biggest difficulty is trying to give you a reference point. I found most of them don't mean anything without a known reference point in the vehicle. See how you go.

I have a few of the boxes under the seats. One of a box so you can see what I have done, and a couple of the cargo area base. The base is angled to allow the fridge to slide out over the tailgate. I have removed both of the cargo area OE covers, and the base plate fits down into the recess where these were originally mounted. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot, I'm also planing to remove both OE covers and that gives a good idea how you set it up. It seems like you have the back seat's removed or folded over???

I was think whether that is possible how did you get access to under the seats from the top? Do you have the backseats removed alltogether?
