Just ordered case and battery for my second remote. Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread I have decided to give it a go. If it works well I will order another case for my main remote which is working fine but the case is wearing out. Will let you know how it goes.
Case was $18 and the battery was $15 both from Australian eBay suppliers.
My keys are on the way out as well, might have to come and see you after you get it sorted Andrew .... ;)
I've been very fortunate with D3 keys, I keep losing them before the battery goes:censored:....LOL. I have managed to keep one long enough to wear the fob cover out then the key failed...... Found this on ebay.

The upside is I was planning to do that one anyway once I had confirmed with the dud key that I could do it. The downside is that I still have one working key and one dud key:censored:
Never mind I have ordered the next fob case and battery and will do it again next weekend.
It is definitely fiddly, make sure you have a fine tip for your soldering iron, I didn't but filed mine down and it worked ok. It is a bugger getting the old case apart and the new cases definitely aren't of the same quality materials as the old one, but for now all looks good and works well.
Just did the second key which hasn't been working for about a year and it was an instant cure, no worries at all. Definitely easier the second key once you have worked out all the fiddly bits.
Learned the hard way that you need to make sure you put enough super glue on as the first key I did fell apart a few days after I finished it, luckily I didn't lose any bits and was able to just out it back together and reglue it.
