Interesting that you bought the car in Albury (I assume new) and brought to Perth. It is a well known fact that Perth's monopoly LR dealer would take great delight in not bending over backwards to help you. This is their ultimate up-yours for not supporting them.

Somewhat understandable but lack of competition hurts us over here.

If you are a well known & regular customer they will walk over water for you as this dealer also sells a range of big boats and RIBs to big hitting WA customers to provide a total toy package.

I am reliably told that WA buyers looking to save a few bucks on a $400k+ Maserati or Ferrari or Lambo (same dealer has these dealerships also) by buying over east would not risk the lack of support / shunning when back in WA.

As they teach you in economics monopolies are the best businesses!

I've found over the last couple of years that the LR service guys at you-know-where in Osborne Park have been good - even though I bought my D3 in Melbourne! Mind you it was secondhand, so that was a bit different. Someone in the service dept even stayed back for 20 mins one evening when I was on a flight coming in that was late arriving and I desperately needed to get the car that evening ahead of a trip the next day. They're not cheap but they seem to know what they're doing.

I use Roadbend at Welshpool for my Jaguar XJ though as their labour rates af far cheaper ... woops, I'm probably not supposed to say that!

When I was shopping for my D4 the guys in Perth never even got back to me with a price. The guys in Albany were very helpful in every way and I'm now on to my second D4 from them, they told me that most of the land rovers they sell go to the metro area.

To be fair though a few years ago when my Disco2 dropped it's oil pump bolt southerns did do a good job of changing over the motor and turbo's under warranty, I had bought it through them though, back when they would give you a price....

A long long time ago I worked for a guy who did nothing but Comm's gear, HF radios, CB's etc.

Mobile phones were brand new and very big and Satnav for civvies didn't exist so this stuff was far more important than it is now as a form of communication.

And even then Land Rover brand vehicles needed an extra ounce of brains to get installations correct which led to some very funny and outright stupid faults popping up when I was inevitably called on to fix problems created by DIY and other "Pro" installers.

These days im beyond doing this stuff myself and prefer to get car sound and similar fitted where I buy the item but I always ask the installer how he is planning to do the job and this fairly quickly qualifies them as suitable or not at which stage I either ask for another installer or suggest how id like it done.

Remember that you are not there to make a new friend although this happens and if the guy is defensive then find another because it usually means he has been chewed out in the past for stuff up's.

And yes, even auto elecs make boo boo's.

This my first post & would like to share my experience with
getting a so called expert & large National 4wd centre (What a Joke) to fit a Hemma 6 Nav to my Disc 4 its only a month old & love this car.
Puchased it new in Albury & drove it back to Perth (What a car) its
    not even run in.
Have had early RRs, Landcruisers etc & so far this car has exceded
    all my expectations.
All I wanted was to have the power connected to a extra cig
lighter type fitted so the cord did not drape over the dash
& the reverse camera hooked up to work thro the Hemma as its made for it, they said no probs easy!
To cut a long story short they had the car all day, rang to say its ready
go to pick up, they start the car, No height suspension working! No Terrain selection working! No door locks working, error codes left right & centre & went into limp mode!!!
Car now has to go to Barbagello Land Rover in Perth to get fixed & is going to spoil all our Xmas plans.
Can not name this so called expert 4wd centre yet, but will after all this crap is resolved.
It just goes to show how a presumed simple job turns into a nightmare!
They rang me today and said they had removed all the wiring & are now not interested in doing the job to hard! (What Job they just botched it & stuffed my car) & said they are not going to charge me, thanks for nothing.

Will keep you all posted on the outcome

Well mate you do live in WA where 25% earn big money and the other 75% have to try and live up to the Joneses because of the exhoribent prices normally charged.I've had 5 stints over there and yes I learned the hard way.e.g. half a rock melon $5.00 Powered Milk East $5 West $9.50 etc etc etc. and the fuel rip off across the nullabor is out of this world.

Stuff that - thats illegal use of a motor vehicle... I'd be speaking to the boss man - or setting the police loose...

I bought new off these stealers and they have really turned me off the brand service whereas the Albany dealers have been fantastic.
Perth mob-before new car pick up a phone call for "special" tinting at $850 and became very angry when I said no thanks, service time - brake pads need replacing immediately, still 6mm + left on them because I measured them when I did my tyre rotation, spare parts quoted at 30% more than an East Coast dealer I had quotes from, fuel filter left loose, bolts on protection plates stripped and some missing, complete denial on my request for a trans flush @ 100k km's - result, had to stop driving car when trans said enough and the shuddering became violent and unable to go up the hilly streets here in Albany.
They have really put a foul taste on our first LR and unfortunately have also found other service agents around Australia very, very poor.
LR's written response to other problems has been "take it up with the dealer", woopee doo. The monopoly here in the West is a big problem.
The same dealer is the agent for F250's which we are purchasing two newies for work ( $300,000 +), will be driving them back over the Nullabor after our experience.
I know other brands must have same problem but to say if you have purchased from them you get great service - that's not our experience at all and will never buy from them again. Albany dealer has been excellent.

I'm not going to discuss the efficacy of dealers/aftermarket fitters.

I had a Tekonsha brake controller fitted to my MY12 D4 and pretty much got all the errors you speak of. The problem is with the electronics in the new Land Rovers and their self diagnostics getting extraneous feedback from the accessory device.

My problem was solved by fitting a diode in the power feed and brakellamp switch line which prevents any signals feeding back from the device.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Note by way of full disclosure - I bought my D3 from Vic 2nd hand as at the time I could not even find a late model TDV6 SE in WA for sale as hard as I tried. Could not imagine the price competition would be too hot when one did pop up so went East where there were plenty. I could see the dealer wanted the same money for an 05/06 version I could by an 08 for over east (at a dealer).

After I bought the car I did not have any trouble with end of warranty services at this dealer. I suspect the praise may lay more with LR for honoring the warranty as I simply became a new customer. There are so many people coming to WA to work that seeing an eastern states plate is a regular occurrence on our roads.

My comment related specifically to a new car where you have clearly flipped the bird to them when you roll in for the first service / warranty issue / complaint.

I drove mine for a year on the Vic plates whereas (I am guessing) a new car would come over plateless and be rego-ed over here with WA plates??

P.S. I know of a customer who has bought multiple cars + boat who is allowed to keep his offroad set of tyres at the dealer gratis with free changeovers. He speaks very highly of the customer service let me tell you

The double bonus for the dealer is that these guys just write the cheque and don't tend to double check the work or investigate the thickness of their brake pads (which I absolutely highly commend).

    Hi Diana

To me that illustrates poor product by the manufacturer of the (in this case) Brake Controller..

Well designed and built products don't cause unwanted side effects
