I Learnt Two things this Holidays

Hi Baz - out of interest... was it the left hand blinker light on the trailer that wasn't working? I noticed the same thing on my boat trailer.

I just got back home today after a couple of days at Stockton Beach. Temp was 40c this morning at Newcastle, along old hwy (as I haven't been on that road for 30+ years!), climbing to 43c just before Hornsby. My D4 was also sluggish off the mark at low speeds. I suspect this was heat soak while in traffic/lights ie. heating the intercooler. It was fine at highway speeds.

I did have some evil thoughts at the time about plumbing in some water tank, irrigation tubing and sprays - to mist water onto the intercooler. :angel: Hopefully there won't be too many days like that. :D

That might be hot for the east :wasntme: but on New Year's Day driving home from Esperance outside temp (according to D4 display) hit 47. Car was fully loaded and with roof topper and big wheels.
Temp set as 24 and internal gauge showed 23.8....and around this all day. 110ish.
Friends Prado....had to turn aircon off as car was not coping. Friends patrol was fine, but no where near as cool inside.
My D4 just keeps making me smile!

I don't know if this is related, but on a couple of occasions I had noticed reduced performance in my 3.0L D4 HSE. Once on the highway when using slight throttle changes and the other moving out from a kerb between parked cars, again with a very light throttle setting. Took the D4 to my local service agent (Whyatts in Geraldton) and after some searching the LR systems and I think discussion with LR in Sydney they have replaced 5 small 'T' pipe junction pieces (on the vacuum system? something to do with the twin turbo setup?).

I do note that only the second problem happened on what was a very very hot day!

Anyhow it seems to me that the D4 now drives more smoothly and I have not had a reoccurence of the problem.

The New England is my preference too and I normally like to do it through the night which means no traffic but thankful for the bar work!

Incidentally I always use more fuel on the New England despite the lower speed limit - I think it is because it is a bit more mountainous terrain...

Yes Adam, Ness is good, just a minor annoyance, as for the D4, very odd as it was going fine on all the other hot days.

A/C was fine and working well inside the car, actually we had to turn the temp up to stop from freezing too death;)

I haven't done anything with the rims as yet, just waiting on some others.

Yes Rob, left blinker, turned the lights on and bingo all working great, it is great to know this, as we were going to get some LEDs for the camper.


I suspect the spotties have some bearing on this with the car loaded and towing the camper in very high temps, I also suspect an MAF fault logged in the system could be part of the problem as well and may even be why we have had some fuel economy problems as well, although we averaged 14 to 15l/100k on the way home towing the camper, even when it was struggling up the steeper hills.
