OK we can add a new experience to this little ditty. Our cable has become birds nested simply from the very rough conditions experienced on the GRR and all the other Kimberley road to date
Found this out at Kununurra as we have a slow leak on FR and can't find it so decided to swap out the first spare. Well it was a fascinating experience being under the car using all your weight to pull the spare wheel down as its own weight would not drag out the cable. So looks like another warranty claim on this one but that will be Perth which is a month or so away. Better ring them to make sure they have one is stock for me
But that is the only problem we have had so far and if so quite small in comparison to other makes and models

Not as cool as this solution:

Its my favourite so far.
Admittedly, it does nothing to fix the fact that the cable will jam without weight on it, but it does make the job a whole lot easier!
Cheers

To complicated, mine is a simple gear-box repositioned so the access is brilliant
Hi There,
I'm not sure really where to go with this, great I love the innovative ways that people overcome problems like this, however if you have good quality tyres the probability of getting a puncture reduces significantly and therefore the amount of times you would have to exercise the spare wheel winch. Or you take the other tack and by rubbish tyres and live with the comfort that you have easier access to your spare tyre than other Land Rover owners.......
Me I buy quality tyres and live the mindset that I will eventually meet special people in tyres centres on rare occasions..................... now where was that hydraulic kit, I'm sure I could come up with something..........:)
Cheers Marty
p.s this isn't saying that the people who have fitted modified winch mechanisms buy rubbish tyres, some people travel to places that punctures are unavoidable, I get that, just in case someone gets defensive. I've done Coopers I'm over them, consider the blue touch paper lit.............!!
I fixed my spare tyre winching issues ages ago .................. :p:p:p

And now I've got ~180 litres fuel capacity as well. :D
It's an "Outback Accessories" RWC made in Perth. Was supplied and fitted (at the same time as the fuel tank) by Steve at Lifestyle 4WD in Morley.
I like where it sits, even though it partially blocks the right side tail lights and requires an additional light by law. The only thing I didn't like was the horrible looking square trailer light with globes that was originally supplied with it - so I bought a round LED tail light combo which is more in keeping with the style of the original D4 tail lights.
