D4 Oil - Ok so which oil?

Hi Guys, needing to do the oil and have read across many forums that the spec stated in the manual for Castrol Edge Professional 5W/30 to spec WSS-M2C913-B is not easily obtainable by the consumer, indies, or dealers.

Is this really the case? Seems strange to me.

Have seen posts where dealers and indies both say they don't use it or cant get it. The manual does state a WSS-M2C913-C alterative is usable.

If you do a self-service oil change what are you using? or where can I get the specified spec? lol

    Thanks guys.

CASTROL MAGNATEC PROFESSIONAL A5 5W-30 is available in 20 litre drums from distributors. About $250.00 a drum which should give you a few oli changes. My local distributor just ordered it in for me.
Thats what I use on my D3 2.7
The C1 flavour should also be available if you have a 3.0 litre

I have topped mine up with the equivalent Penrite that has recently been released. It was about $50 for 5L direct from Penrite.

Like you I have not been able to find engine oil that exactly meets requirements. One that is close it Shell Ultra Extra 5w30 ($80 for 5litres) and I have been using it for a while - I guess it will not be until the engine's old age before I find out whether that is a good or bad decision.

    I use Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5w 30

I get it from a distributor in Penrith (Sydney) it cost around $130 for 10 1 litre bottles, it was cheaper buying it in this format than any other way

thanks for the responses guys I'll consider the options.

As Gary said it will be later down the track if any adverse effects are caused. Why do I have a continual building feeling that in some cases LR build these vehicles to hard to meet specs unless dealers are involved..lol.

I too am now pondering a retail engine oil or Im off to the dealer for a bottle of whatever their using and I will check tomorrow but Im sure their using Castrol Edge Professional A5 5w-30. Planning a long trip and want a top up, my oil indicator is about 3/4 full where it has been since new, I would prefer closer to full. Manual specs give Ford WSS-M2C913-C,huh, why not Jag/Landrover spec. STJLR.03.5003 as in Castrol data sheet. ACEA A5/B5 can be used also.
Maybe Ill order from a Castrol depot but I might switch at next service to Nulon, Shell, which have oils retail at the above specs, might go to MR Auto for the servicing.(thats where the Td5 goes) hmmmmm.
