The Land Rover "Side Tubes" are not sliders, they are just dress items.
They come in Black or Chrome.
I have a pair of Chrome tubes I took off up in my garage roof - they will stay there until I sell the car!
I've got a set of these:

    Much stronger and cheaper too!

When mine break I will get GOE sliders.

I have put a few dings and gouges in them....but that's only 12 months of offroad. GOE sliders would have probably only shown scratches.

The left one has taken the weight of the car for a short period down south and hung in there.

They are no good for stepping on and are slippery when wet.

    GOE sliders cheaper and stronger.

Looked at them and then got the steel ones. No dents in mine and I can use with a high lift jack when needed. Don't try that with the MLR ones.

MLR are nice people and would fit the real sliders if you needed them too.

I got some sliders custom made by a guy in Melbourne. (GSE RIG GEAR in Kilsyth)
Very strong, and you can stand on them no problem.
I'll put some pics up here if you want, but I already did in a thread on here called "barred up"
Cost was approx $800 all up.
    I bet he'd fit a winch too!

    Cheers.
    Rohan.

I ordered a set of these:
Land Rover LR3 LR4 Discovery 3 Discovery 4 Rock Sliders Tree Guards
through Peninsula Rangie down in Frankston (VIC). Very strong, and as others have said, will support a Hi Lift Jack and I regularly use them to get access to the roof racks.

Here are some pics with them on my D4

    herBlick,

A member on this site Disco3QLD (Brad) fabricated a few sets a while ago for forum members and i purchased a set.

I opted for the narrow step and they fit well are very strong and provide piece of mind when off road. I would however next time go for the wider step as they would be more useful as a step but I am very happy with them.

Not sure if Brad is still on the site or indeed making these for anyone but you could follow him up.

There a re a few photos in the forum of these sliders fitted, but the look very much like Guppy's ones.

By the way Guppy, that is nicely set up D4 !!!

    Disco3Qld's Sliders

I too have a set of Brad's sliders and only got them off him late last year.

While he may not be 'onsite' all the time, if you PM him, he is pretty good at getting in touch and discussing the item with you.

I have the wider set, with a bit of grip tape sourced from a ship chandler they work well as a step - my 4 year old finds the leap into the car much easier, and it is easier for me to get to the roof racks for bikes and boards as well.

I have been very happy with mine.

This might be a silly question but where to they bolt up to? I have had a look under my newly purchased D3 and there is nothing obvious there to bolt it to.

If you take off the plastic sill trims you will find built in fixing points on both the vertical face and underside.
In fact the factory side tubes and steps use the same holes to fix off.

How to take the trims off, well that is a different story.
