Hi Bess,
The 3 litre twin turbo motor still uses the same cam belt system as the 2.7 litre motor (notched rubber belt dirve) so no saving in belt replacement service cost.
Only the 4 litre petrol v6 uses chains!

G day Barryyp, Thanks for that mate, We came very close to purchasing what was a very tidy D4 Td & that decision was partly based on the Stealer telling me the new 3 ltr ran chain rather then belt. I stand happily corrected & wiser for the knowing. He never did tell me what had failed in the D3 we looked at but it was enough to scare me off a little. Still think they are a fabulous thing to drive thou.

So 2.7 (MY10 -12) and 3.0 (MY 10-) liter diesel motors motors are all belt driven,....
Its only the petrol ones that have a chain drive cam ?

Yes, thats what my research shows. The cam belt cover is virtually identical between my LR3 2.7 litre and my 3 litre RRS.
It would have to be a totally different design if it had to keep in lubricating oil etc for a chain drive.
