D4 Rear seat { 7 seat } removal

The 4 tie down points (chrome "D" shaped tie downs) are NOT Torx bits.

They are a 6mm hex.
If you place your Torx bit in it, it will destroy the Torx bit.

The Torx Size is a T40 or T50 (cant remember off the top of my head tormenting the children) as used in all Later LR seat belts/mounts.

Sorry and thanks for correcting me Sniegy. Just goes to show that you don't believe everything you read on the internet!

Come to think of it, I think I did use a hex bit on those. I certainly didn't destroy the bolts or the tool. It was quite a few months ago now and it is probably obvious when you look at them closely. I have updated the previous post for future reference.

Gerald, I weighed mine but I have lost the paper I wrote it all on. It was about 40kg for the third row seat unit, however.

I will advise further when I get home and find my list of weights for the Cape York trip.

Hi Bod,

Found the following in a post.

Rear seats total 71kg, 3rd row total 38kg. When removed it's a fair chunk of spare weight you can add to the bottom line.

Just working on a spread sheet with actual weights. Interesting exercise when you know the GVM but you don't know your baseline starting weight.

I did some research on other vehicles, it's amazing low little margin there is between documented starting weight and GVM.

I can guarantee most people exceed GVM when towing and loading up the roof rack with supplies for the whole family.

I read a story about the latest jeep, it can not even support 5 people at 75kg and towing with a ball weight of 10%. Many other vehicles fall in the same category.
