As Geedublya said, just leave them on but if for any reason you do want to take them off and swap back to the OEM ones, you can drill the OEM rods out slightly to make them much easier to take on and off.

Older versions of the fitting instructions included this note:

1 While you have the original rods off, you can open up the holes a little to make swapping the rods a little easier. A 9.5mm drill bit will open it up sufficiently, whilst still giving a snug fit.

I have been driving for a couple of years with them on the normal position, no problems.

I've been wondering whether to take them off now that I can control the height in-cabin with the IID tool...

My GOE rods work fine left in day to day at normal height. Take about 2 mins to set when going off road.

thinking of going down the LLAMS road so will be selling my 3 position rods in the next month or so. I've loved them but would appreciate complete in-cab control given some of the tracks and beaches I drive on.

I don't run mine at extended height for general use. You can add abnormal tyre wear to your list of potential faults though.

The main difference I think people would appreciate the most is not needing to slide one end of the rod off completely before reinserting onto the other hole, as can be a bit fiddly when reaching behind the wheel and going by feel. The new rods look like you can just slide directly from one hole to another.

For someone like me who doesn't use them many times (and hence not as familiar with the process) then it is helpful to have this guidance.

Yes I think it was watching you on a Lithgow trip messing around in the dirt and heat fiddling with it, I think it might have been the first time you had used them, that convinced me to pay the extra and buy Llams but then I’m pretty lazy.
