Thanks Dave, I'll try the almond milk. I've tried insulating my travel mug with a neoprene beverage cooler, but the faint slopping sound still ruins the more pianissimo moments of Mahler's 5th, even with the Harmon Kardon turned up to eleven.

Eleven! ...seriously you Latte sipping sooks are not turning it up enough, the Logic7 volume tops out at Number 35, now that is loud. ...especially when playing AC/DC!

At that volume I can't hear the wife screaming at me from the front passengers seat. ...

Re tyres ...the Cooper AT3's are very quite when new and are very good both on and off road. They will get noisier after about 30k though but still not anywhere near bad and that is with the stereo turned off. ...
    Cheers,
    Terry

I highly recommend Yokohama Geolandar AT-S in 265/60R18 size. They're legal, quieter than OEM tyres, long lasting, handle better in all conditions than OEM - road and off-road. I had two sets of them on my D3 and took it on some serious tracks. IIRC, I got 55,000km on each set. The only downside is the price - but as I mentioned in another post, Tirerack have them for "Set of 4: $664.00" (versus $430+ each here!).
    Cheers,
    Rob

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. The Scorpion ATR's seem to be the most recommended, though I would also be tempted by the Contis. Has anyone tried the Continental Cross tyres?
    Thanks,
    SIG

Flat white???? And you call yourself a D4 owner??

<stomps off in mock outrage........only to return with an on-topic question>

Are there any experiences or opinions on Cooper Zeons? I've got a set of 285/60-18s in the shed to go on the D3, but if they are going to be noisy, then I may go with something else.

Yes they will be very noisy and they will make your fillings vibrate out of your head, so what ever you do don't fit them, you will hate them. ...I'll do you a favour though and buy them off of you for half price. ...

    Done!

(Perhaps I shouldn't point out that I bought them at quarter price )

On second thoughts, I only have one filling, and I've not used my dental allowance on my private health insurance yet this year.....

I would second that. My dad has Geolanders on his D2 and they seem to be great. Personally, I have Cooper ST's on my D3. They are fantastic off road, but if you are looking for something quiet, then they are not for you.

    SIG,

I have has the Continental Cross Contact A/T's on for more than 50,000km.

Whilst I noticed an small increase fin noise when I originally fitted them I was coming from a 100% road biased Continental UHP that were great on road, very quiet but rubbish off.

The Cross Contact A/T's have been a pretty good choice and I am happy to recommend them. Honestly with the windows up there is little to no noticeable noise over and above wind etc.

I will probably go away from the Conti's next set and opt for the new LT 697's as my only concern has been sidewall strength as when used off road they do have a tendency to scuff and cut a bit.

    Hope that helps.

    Regards,

    George
