The load rating specs are for continuous, on road use. They do not account for shock impacts. The 18" rims are built to rally raid spec, and are forged. Much stronger. To be pedantic, they are load rated to 950kg, not 940. We didn't require them to be rated any higher for road use.Quote:

sorry gordon wasnt calling out your particular rims, just trying to work out if the 20" and 19" rims supplied by Range Rover. i.e do they break, are the just useless offroad etc.
I was trying to dig into these particular rims (supplied by LR factory) on what i can expect from them capability wise.. I am betting the rims 18" from what i've seen of them from you are a strong rally spec'd unit.
I suppose (after just watching Your 4x4 go up the oondatta track) trying to work out if the rims supplied by LR are fine or whether as you mentioned the strength in them is not that great.. I will be doing this particular track in the next 12 months.
I'm sure the LR rims are fine for the occasional off-road foray. I'm not suggesting that they're any weaker than other OEM alloys, but they're not a dedicated off-road rim, so not as strong. They are susceptible to spoke damage, but that's not usually terminal.
If you want the most durable, get the 18" rims. They are not expensive for what they are, as most rim retailers that want to on-sell them for me keep telling me. So far I'm happy to sell them myself and keep the price sub-$700.
If you're happy with the OEM, then you probably already have the best combination for a 20" rim.

Somewhere there is at least one old thread about 19" rims cracking with desert use. IIRC they were s/h L322 rims fitted with MTRs which may have no similarity with the current 20" rims.
Working at Eastnor, we get through more than our fair share of tyres & rims... :angel:
With 20", you are going to be more likely to:
- Pinch / damage the side wall.
- Split / bend the rim (less sidewall to absorb impact).
- Roll a tyre off the rim.
For anything more serious than the occasional drive across a muddy field or beach, the largest rims I'd want are a set of 19"s.

Nup, hit a little on the front plastic guard, but a quick mod to move the guard about 10mm and its perfect. It was only at full lock anyhow and in normal mode. I still use access mode as well.
Looks like these rims and style is ok and I might stick with them and see how I go.
33*12.5/20 any good? Have seen a few sets getting about on hiluxs in a MT pattern.
