Mine is going in for rectification this week, I will let you know what comes.
As far as i am concerned, if the Land Rover give a screen reading to a decimal point, the system should be that accurate, or its misleading. 8.2 l/100 kms means its accurate to 0.1 of a litre, otherwise it should be 8 or 9 and no decimal point. For the service department to claim otherwise is "its just an estimate sir" is entirely inappropriate.
I have also asked for the service manager to tell me what the inputs are land rover use to determine these readings. I thought they were based on the injector pulse frequency and openings however it was suggested at the dealership it was based on the tank level sensor and odometer (does not seem correct to me) if the computer can give an "instant" reading, it should be able to provide an accurate average reading as well.
A nice easy 1900 km drive was 11.26 l/100 actual, computer said it was 8.7 l/100 kms. GPS distance matched the odometer quite well. So....either BP are are ripping me off when I fill up or Land Rover are engaging in misleading practices by setting the computer to make customers think these vehicles are a lot more fuel efficient than they really are.....
For a thought here....the computer lets me think the D4 uses 8.7 l/100 do 166l for the trip.....when in face I used 216l for the trip. So the extra 50 l at $1.50 is another $75 ...so the car is not as economical as we have been lead to believe.
I am really most annoyed though by my mate in his toe rag with the 180 motor who gets sub 8l/100 kms on the same trips together and has been hanging **** on me that the D4 is always topping up yet I claim my economy is not that different...... You do try to "defend" the land rover brand :)
Overall, service manager seemed to be genuinely interested in solving this so I trust there will be a reasonable post next week on this....
