I don't even need to raise the suspension on mine. i leave it at normal height, then start jacking it, and it will lift by itself. I swap my tyres over when ever I go offroad and my lad is blown away how it works. It's a neat party trick.

But for the next tyre onwards I remove the fuse.

My avatar shows a wheel flexing pic. I left if there for about two minutes and when I reversed it off the stump the car stayed at weird angles for about 10 seconds, then it levelled out.

A second hand Mercedes Sprinter jack, not exactly the same as the UK eBay one. Same manufacturer and 3 ton instead of 2.5 ton.

It extends with two stages from 235mm to 550mm.

I got it from a Mercedes wrecker for $90.

Rich... What's the closed height?

235mm is the closed centre height, 240mm at the edge of the prongs.

After considerable research I have found and ordered the Weber two stage jack normally supplied with Mercedes Sprinter vans. 2.5 ton lift from 260mm to 570mm.

They are coming from an eBay (UK) seller. Item number 261281033753. I have bought two because they can be shipped together for about the same as shipping one and my brother (Lancenot) wants one for his D4 too. The seller accepts email enquiries from outside UK and quotes the shipping on a case by case basis.

Two jacks delivered for $145 each. Should arrive next week.

The story from the seller is that the EC rules stipulate that people who take hire or lease vehicles in Europe are not to change wheels themselves. To comply, the dealers remove the jacks and pass them on in batches of 100 for agents who sell can sell them cheaply. (@ £ 25 each equals approx $42).

Hope others find this information useful. I would recommend batch/group buying if you can arrange it to cut down the shipping costs.

I replaced my sizzor jack with a non-airbag model D3 bottle jack, it's a 2 stage jack and not bad but like the sizzor jack is a wind up jobby, can be a pain, but not bad once you get used to it, still heaps better than the crappy sizzor jack.

Then it struck me, the D2 bottle jack was a 2 stage hydrolic jack and very compact, so I got myself one, works a treat;)

I did look at this one Rob, it's a big jack, at least 10cm or more diameter and heavy too at 12kg, the minimum height is good though, but the weight and size put me off.

There is a good range of bottle jacks at the tool place opposite Bunnings in Wollongong, that one was there.
