Servicing ....what rubbish!!!! Why am I dealing MAF sensors

How can anyone say they have serviced your car when this has built up and caused near fatal "special program's off" limp mode disaster.. I had to bloody go on the web to find this out... Dealers are useless ...surely they no about this issue .. I am furious,
They have no respect for your time or wallet...
MAP sensor needed cleaning that's all ...but why m I paying them thousands and having to find this out myself .....I am disgustedImageUploadedByTapatalk1379234441.008898.jpg

Well while I can understand your concern before getting stuck into the dealer you should check what is covered in your services. That item you showed is not a MAF sensor but is a Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) sensor - completely different part.

As this is not in any of the standard service schedule (and I believe it should be along with cleaning the inside of the manifold) if you did not specify this to be cleaned then the dealer would not do it.

However, if this had caused an issue a fault would have been logged which may prompt them to have a look at it.

It just seem like such a known issue ...pages and pages on the web with all the symptoms pointing to this problem and I have to find it out my self it's ridiculous.

    All good now ....just venting

How much is a replacement MAP sensor?

Should it be cleaned and reused or just replaced?

How many kms has your engine done? Just curious to know whether it's time to replace the MAP sensor proactively on the TDV6 which belongs to a family member.

A new sensor is about $100. Can be cleaned very easily and successfully, provided you are very careful not to poke anything into the hole. A few squirts of electronics contact cleaner, or MAF cleaner will work perfectly.

MAP sensors don't normally deteriorate so no need to replace them, just keep them clean. I purchased a MAP sensor for my 3.0 when it failed under warranty to avoid the vehicle having to be trucked to the nearest dealer 200 kms away due to enforced extremely restricted performance and therefore leaving me with no transport at all. It cost $265 ex a UK dealer which was, from memory, less than half the local price. The sensor was subsequently replaced under warranty so I carry a clean spare. Fortunately for LR owners, the MAP sensors ordinarily seem to be very reliable because the enforced performance restriction, for the 3.0 at least, means that the vehicle cannot IMO be safely driven on major roads.

I priced an OEM one up for the D3 2.7 a few days ago, and it was £56 delivered!

My 3.0's Hitachi PS91-3 is the same part number as a 2009 2.7. Is this the same part number that your one uses?
