I have recently put Pirellis on my D3. We live in the sticks with 8k's of dirt road. The car came with coopers on it and were 50%+ tread and had 2 flats in 2 weeks. The pirellis are awesome. price was comparable. Had Cooper ST's on Cruiser and loved them but not the AT's.

I have done around 30k on a set of 265/60/18 AT3's and they have proven to be very good tyres. No serious of roading with them but plenty of very bad dirt roads while towing a 2.5 ton van.

Having said that my next set of AT's will be the new Bridgestones.
    Cheers,

Where to buy Coopers from OS

My AT3 tyre here in Australia is $315. In the USA its $115. In England its somewhere in the middle.

We are being ripped off here because Coopers in the USA will not sell into Australia direct and undercut the local importer.

Does anyone know of a dealer in the States who will ship to Australia ?

Jason sorry but your comments are simplistic, I like everyone else are always too looking for a bargain but if you stopped and considered the facts for a moment then you may realise that we are not as such being ripped off.

You might be able to buy them for $115 US in America but add in the exchange rate difference, GST/taxes/duties etc, shipping and handling charges and all of a sudden the difference in price landed here is not that great.

Add in the fact that a company here needs to pay rent on the factory where they store the tyres in and they pay some of the most generous wages in the western world for the staff to send them out to the dealer Plus freight charges to the dealer, then add on the dealers margin and that is where you get the Aussie price from.

Plus along the way several Australian's were employed in jobs that assist in getting those tyres to you and that helps prop up our economy where you are also employed.

    Still feel ripped off?

Well I now have the AT3's on and completed a trip up north from Perth into Francois Perron. So mainly on bitumen and about 8 hours of sand driving. All looking good so far, but yet to really test them.

Did you end up with the 275's (LT). I'm about to get these fitted on my D3 & was wondering about rubbing at access height s well.

    Cheers,

    Phil

Which Pirelli's did you fit? I'm considering Scorpion 255/265's vs. Coopers AT3 265/275

Hi all, new to the site and discos but I'm noticing a trend where everyone talks about the Cooper Tyres being the best for D3s.. I do wonder why?

I have a set on our newly acquired D3, with plenty of tread but damn those things are driving me nuts with the road noise.. Rear left tyre has an exceptionally loud rotational thump going on..

What is it with coopers that you guys love so much, I'm tempted to trade these in for some Maxxiss 751s or similar..

(Worth mentioning as well my dads jeep once had coopers on it and similar feeling - too noisy as a tyre and he was getting chunks missing from the side of the tread on the road - changed them soon after).

    Thanks Mike

Oops - just noticed the OP has a D3, not D4. I think 285's will clear in that case.

Gordon are you suggesting that the LTZ's will fit without scrubbing on a D3?

    Hi Phil,

Scorpion ATR 255/60. They seem to go rather well. With our road being gravel and unmaintained they handle the rough & rocks.
