Thread: Maximum Current From Rear Accessory Socket

Short-term it should work. We run a 35L Engel from the std rear 12V plug in the Evoque, which should have the same rating as your D3. We don't run it often, or for long periods - and always disconnected when the engine's off, although that should happen automagically in the D3.

Thanks Gordon. Hoped that would be the case. I'll still try to fit a dbs before I go but it's good to take some pressure off. I hate working on a car when a trip deadline looms.

I plug my 12 V booster pack into the rear socket of the D4 and the fridge into the booster pack. Jump packs don't like being used that way but works well on weekends where it's mainly driving.

I can run my 55l ebay special from the rear socket no issue.

Thanks guys. Looks like it should be OK. Just read lots of horror stories when researching fridges about other 4wd makes running the fridge off their rear accessory socket.

Hi preacher and if your Evakool runs off a battery pack then you should have no problems powering it from the accessories socket in the rear of your D3.

While you will get some voltage drop at the fridge, but as your fridge only draws about 4 amps while cycled on, the amount of voltage drop caused by a 4 amp load would still give you a high voltage at the fridge while driving than you get from your battery pack.

So your fridge will work better in the back of your D3 than it will off your battery pack.

Most problems related to compressor type fridges being powered in a vehicle are caused by the plug working loose.

So just make sure the plug is a secure fit when in the D3.

Thanks everyone. Fridge ran a treat over the weekend. Battery pack at site and socket while driving got me through the long weekend without needing a recharge.

Another one of those situations where it pays to get a second opinion and not follow the "advice" from the salesperson.
